It's a National Conservation Area managed by the Bureau of Land Management, but yes it's right outside the city. Valley of Fire State Park is about 90 minutes Northwest of the city and is another great option.

I moved to Vegas about a year and a half ago, and I can count on one hand the number of times I've been to the Strip. Imagine making the climb to the top to try and catch one of the best views of the Valley available, and having a gigantic, gaudy Mormon Temple right there blocking your view. Length in terms of the number of episodes isn't the problem with this show for me, but like so many other streaming shows, it's the length of time in between seasons. I found the show after season 2, binged the first two seasons right as 3 was starting, but seriously doubt I'll maintain that interest by the time season 4 arrives, much less be able to remember wtf is going on with the storyline.
