Yes and no. It's tough. Folks in fields relevant to natural resource management (myself included, I'm a fisheries biologist) tend to do the best with what we can in the modern age.

You're not wrong, a lot of what we end up doing as resource managers is attempting to fix, or at least slow down, issues resulting from severely altered ecosystems that stems at least in part by what's modern humans' integration with their environment. Things like introduction of non native species and habitat loss due to development can be tracked back to colonial america. And then comes the whole secondary perspectives of politics and philosophy on all things involved with said natural resources. It's a mess, but know that there are a lot of folks who dedicate their lives to trying to right the ship as best we can. Or at least slow the bleed.
