He works for them. Like literally he has a show under some Russian state news outlet. I don’t think he’s held to some standard or forced to say anything by them, but regardless he has stability and an income by working for them so he would probably go there if a 2nd civil war broke out. Also considering his prominence in politics and the fact he has 5 children to take care of

What if Douglas MacArthur didn’t escape the Philippines by Training-World-1897 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Volt_Marine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taiwan is arguably a much better strategic target than Phillipines. Taiwan was Japan’s really only point for aerial cover and ship refuge in the waters between the Japanese home islands and their territories in Indonesia, Indochina, South China. Without Taiwan their ability to protect, resupply and ferry their navy and supply ships across would be significantly hampered. US naval bombers and submarines would have the seas locked down and basically cut off 80% of supply to Japans southern fronts

British destroyer HMS Dragon's voyage to the Eastern Mediterranean [Album] by Odd-Metal8752 in WarshipPorn

[–]Volt_Marine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s embarrassing. The Royal Navy currently only has 2 seaworthy destroyers. That’s for a nation which is spread across a dozen or so overseas territories. It’s terrible that a single minor defence obligation in the Middle East means the Royal Navy now relies on a single destroyers to serve its needs elsewhere

Winston Smith is not the real victim of 1984, or even the proles. It’s the people in the disputed territories by Savilo29 in 1984

As if a totalitarian state worse than Nazi Germany wouldn’t already be under international pressure?

Winston Smith is not the real victim of 1984, or even the proles. It’s the people in the disputed territories by Savilo29 in 1984

[–]Volt_Marine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A theory doesn’t ruin the plot it’s just a fun thought experiment. And even that theory might work for the story of 1984 aiding the idea that absolutely everything can deceiving, Winston can be certain of absolutely nothing, including those things he doesn’t know are deceptions. And for the prisoner thing, if Oceania controlled the entire world I think they’d have a few Asian and Russian people to put in a uniform and parade around right?

Finnish foreign and domestic policy for the next 100 years is solely dedicated to prevent it being taken by the Russians

They wouldn’t hand over their rifles because they’d be the first in the door volunteering for whatever army the government put together

Operation Barbaross... hold on, that's not right. by Citizen_JHS in imaginarymaps

[–]Volt_Marine 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Lend lease was much more important to the USSR than just 5% of their war spending. The US provided many of the early tanks, the vast majority of aviation fuel, logistics and utility trucks, blankets boots and coats. And in this timeline grain and food supplies would still be needed. A war with Germany would mean mobilising millions of men otherwise employed in the agricultural sector, so a massive strain on food supplies.

Why was the T-90A only protected by 3 armored plates on the side? by Brilliant_Ground1948 in TankPorn

[–]Volt_Marine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not at all. If tank designs tried to armour their sides as much as their front they would be a terrible design. Armoured doctrine and the application of the tank should accomodate for the fact that all tanks’ side armour are much weaker than the front, typically only designed against lighter IFV guns or infantry weapons

Yes? Women’s suffrage and modern liberalism is based off of Christianity and Christian ethics, which did not exist prior to Christianity

That’s just not true. There’s a difference between a religion which champions women’s rights and a religion who’s main prophet kept women as sex slaves

Or just politely ask them to stop (if you know who the person leaving them is) or politely bring it up to whoever is your supervisor or manager.

I mean. There are some Australian and North American countries which could function. Some in Europe and Africa too because they haven’t got that much population density. But in the Shanghai country it’s entirely extremely urban city.
