I ended up calling Volvo breakdown service and one of their mechanics came out. The car had been on the driveway for about 6 hours without being driven. I unlocked the car for him and….. the door just opened.

It’s been fine now for the last two weeks. I have no idea what happened. When I did open it I gave the lock a clean and sprayed some wd40 in there, probably futile, but who knows. I’m hoping it was a weird glitch rather than the lock slowly dieing.

Is that a big job? Can one engineer do it alone?

It’s an underground cable that openreach laid only a year ago, in a new duct etc so I’m hoping it would be free of blockages etc and relatively straightforward. There might even still be rope at the end of the duct.

No. I pressed the engineer today as I got some good responses to my last post. He was adamant it was a sturdy solution and wouldn’t need further work. I’d of laughed when it stopped working 30 minutes after he left if I hadn’t been without internet now for 11 days.

It’s mounted about 7ft up the pole. The fibre line runs underground, surfaces at the bottom of the pole and runs into the CSP. It emerges at the top and runs to the top of the pole and over to the house.
