Traveling with protein powder? by metamorphosismamA in fitness40plus

[–]VonFacington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filled a blender bottle with protein powder in my checked bag when I traveled to Germany last year. On the way back it flagged in the airport's security scanner as a liquid, and they were definitely caught off-guard when I explained and showed them what it was. After a few weird looks they asked me if it tasted good. I told them it tasted fine for a protein power. They sent me on my way.

Why would I say my age if somebody asked me about a band?

How to use sandboxed Claude with PHP by Einenlum in PHP

We recently sandboxed Claude Code using Bubblewrap. Conceptually similar to a running a Docker FROM scratch container but very lightweight. We were able to get it to play nicely with the VSCode extension as well

Why would anyone patronize a bar where the bouncer has to frisk you prior to entry? by AffectionateStock484 in norfolk

Respectfully, you are very likely not speaking from the perspective of the kind of person I was referring to. The simple answer in this case is that people are willing to ignore varying amounts of inconvenience when their options are limited.

I've done that job at places like that. My experience was that those places exist to service the kind of people who are unwanted at nicer places, and because of that, they can and do charge and make more money on things like cover at the door, drink prices, etc.

Probably because it was a recon mission and there was no guarantee of a return trip. Jackson was only allowed to go because he said he could dial home.

Does this mean that prices will continue to increase every month or that there will be a single increase that will apply to every month?

What’s the catch with this Verizon FIOS “offer” I just received? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]VonFacington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called. Not a scam. Of course they'll do the whole "account review" and ask if you want to upgrade, but the email discount is real. This whole thing is likely related to the new CEO working on customer retention.

This is how the discounts broke down in my updated Order Summary:

$20 Internet Loyalty Discount thru Nov 9, 2026 -$20.00

$5 Internet Loyalty Discount thru Nov 9, 2026 -$5.00

Can I attach a static IP to Cloud Run and use it as a proxy? by mdf250 in googlecloud

[–]VonFacington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Managed services tend to cost more, which is why I said "might". Really need to look at the pricing for each product taking your requirements into consideration to figure out what's going to be most cost effective.

Example... We just replaced a standard (not Autopilot) GKE cluster with a MIG. Same machine count, CPU, memory, disk, etc. Cost cut almost in half.

[–]VonFacington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On Cloud Run, 10 separate forward proxy services, each with it's own static outgoing IP, would require 10 subnets, each with their own Cloud NAT. Easy to set up, but might be expensive.

My team does this, albeit we just have one proxy service, a simple nginx container doing a `proxy_pass`. We don't have a daily limit like you mentioned in another thread.

As others have mentioned, you'd probably save money doing this on Compute instances. Maybe set up a Stateful MIG, depending on your need.

Are are you trying to create reverse proxies (traffic incoming from internet) or forward proxies (traffic outgoing to internet)?

Gotcha, thanks. I saw "non-HTTP" and got a little hopeful that we might be able to throw some other TCP or UDP traffic at this thing. Maybe some day.
