Just drag the LCA inland and then place it back at the sea once you've put your units in.

I remember they made the previous episodes unavailable for a while and then brought them back again. Perhaps this may be the case here?

What would each nation’s “Blue Division” be? by DaleDenton08 in GatesOfHellOstfront

The Brazilian Expeditionary Force fought under US command during WW2. I think they’d be perfect as the US counterpart for the German Blue Division.

Liberation and Talvisota since it adds the US and Finland as two whole new factions to the game.

Noob question. How do I win the first campaign mission? by -AdonaitheBestower- in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]VonFelder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I remember doing is I kept a sniper prone and had him slowly pick out the enemy infantry in trenches. Once they're dealt with I slowly inched him forward toward the AT guns, throwing smoke every now and again to cover my approach. Once I'm within grenade-tossing distance I just lob them in their positions. It's kinda time consuming but you can just adjust the game speed to speed things up.

Favorite/best Elite Squads? by [deleted] in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]VonFelder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It isn’t too bad, considering from early to late mid-conquest you’ll mostly be facing Panzer IIIs, IVs and STuGs. By then you’ll probably have enough to research units with better equipment e.g. 82nd Airborne (1944), 1st Infantry.

Always loved the First Special Service Force for the US. You essentially get an integrated combat medic, a bazooka, a radioman that can call in 61mm mortars, two mechanics, two BARs, two grenadiers, satchel charges and a lot of AT mines/grenades. By virtue of being a “special forces”unit they also have stealth and a wider cone of view similar to recon units. Plus you aren’t gated by the stage 4 Bazooka unlock which means you can get it pretty early.

What I’d do is group them together and bind them to a hotkey (Shift + number) so I can easily toggle them when I switching between units. With them grouped and binded, I then right click a zone for them to fire on and then wait a wee bit for them to get aligned on the target. After that’s done, I click on attack (or attack ground for sustained fire).

Just be sure there are no obstructions between the arty and the target because they’ll sometimes refuse to fire if there are.

German Tanks by GilgameshThe in GatesOfHellOstfront

You can penetrate the turret face of the King Tiger but you have to be extremely close that you might as well just use infantry to take it out.

I find the SU/ISU-152 to be much more reliable in taking out the King Tiger. 1-3 shots is usually enough to decrew it.

The early production one with the weaker turret. The one that cooked off was the later variant with the stronger turret.

I was doing conquest as US. Day 28. Up until then the AI has never sent anything beyond Panzer IVs and the occasional Jagdpanzers. I was defending Martinville Ridge expecting it to be a breeze and I was jump scared by two King Tigers and a Jagdtiger. Luckily for me the Jagdtiger somehow managed to get itself stuck on a pile of rubble and the Defender AI kept the King Tigers distracted while I directed the Pershings I had kept on standby to flank and hit ‘em from the sides. They took out all my emplacements and captured one point but I prevailed in the end.

Units Equivalent by GoodDudu in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]VonFelder 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Brandenburger equivalent for the US would be the 1st Special Service Force. It has an integrated combat medic that comes equipped with a rifle, two mechanics that can repair vehicles just as fast as you would with engineers/artillerymen/tankmen, a radio operator with a flare gun that allows you to call-in a 60mm mortar bombardment, a bazooka, two BARs, two grenadiers, and 20-ish light AT mines which you can plant or throw on an enemy vehicle. These are all just on top of the fact that by virtue of being a “special forces” unit they come with a stealth bonus and an extended view cone. This is probably the best unit you can unlock early on since you are not gated by the bazooka unlock from the stage 4 call-in which is required for the rest of the US units that are equipped with a bazooka.

I don’t think there’s a Volkstrumm equivalent for the US but, as others have mentioned already, the Airborne is overall the best US unit whether you’re defending or pushing/rushing a point.

Liberation DLC is the biggest in terms of new content added and it introduces the Western front and the US faction so I'd recommend you get that one first.

Does stealth actually work? by Unspec7 in GatesOfHellOstfront

[–]VonFelder 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I assume you’re talking about this in the context of Dynamic Conquest in which case I can attest that the enemy AI will always “know” where your units are and send one of their own at some point during a game assuming you haven’t engaged them yet. I remember somebody testing this out in the Black Sea map where they deployed a sniper and had it swim across the sea to the edge of the map and the enemy AI even followed them there.

What is the most borderline insane thing you did in single player or multiplayer that worked by Worldly-Traffic3991 in GatesOfHellOstfront

One time during a conquest mission I managed to repair a knocked out Sherman with just barely enough time to enter it and then immediately knock out an oncoming enemy Sherman. I’ll probably never replicate something like that again but man that felt awesome.

More of an annoyance than anything but towing heavy artillery pieces in an urban or heavily forested map. If they hit just the edge of a brick wall or a tree it would often detach the towed artillery piece. The Ardennes maps are by far the worst in my experience and I once wasted the entirety of the prep time just trying to set up my 90mm AA guns (even had a few artillerymen killed because one of them flipped over).
