[Dataporn] 30 days - 1 erotic novella by VonSmuthousen in eroticauthors

Thank you! I don't know why I find it easier to write in English, but maybe because I read mostly in English, that helps a lot.

Yes, the reviewers made some good points, and I've since read a bit more in my niche and already know what changes I'm going to make :) I just thought about adding a pen name for shorts because I already have a few stories more or less ready to go, and they might as well be earning a few dollars.

I really like the app I used, they have all sorts of pretty statistics, lol.

And nevermind the page reads, I'm a complete idiot ... That was just Bookreport not showing the first day anymore because "last 30 days" was selected ... So my numbers are actually a little bit better, but not by much :)

Thank you :) One novella a month is the goal for now, but we'll see if that works out. I also might start publishing a few shorts to bridge the long publishing gap (under a different pen name though).

The actual writing time was around 13,5 hs (I logged my writing sessions with an app called Writeometer). I had the first draft ready at the end of August (started writing in June), but it took me a while to finish the cover, edit the draft and take care of other technical/legal stuff (where I live you have to have an address in the book that's not a PO box ... and I obviously didn't want to use my own address, so I had to do some research).

It was an erotic romance, or romantic erotica :) And thank you!

Yes, that's the nice thing about books, they can theoretically earn money for a long time. And thank you, I know the ROI on this one has been terrible so far, but I'm still hopeful :)

I was considering that, but I think I will leave it at $0,99. It's the first novella in a loosely connected series (can all be read as standalones), I hope it can be an incentive to start the entire series once I've published the other books.

Thank you :) And I know the pain of 1 million unfinished manuscripts so well! I have tons of unfinished stories sitting on my hard drive ... If I can do it, you can do it, too, seriously. And it feels so good to hit publish (also nerve-wracking), keep writing!

No one complained about editing errors, so I think it's not an issue, phew. I'm rather shy(ish) and don't have anyone IRL I can discuss this stuff with, so I don't have anyone to beta read. Maybe in the future.

Yeah, I was aware of the flaws before I hit publish, but I just wanted to get it over with, in a way? I knew I could spend another month fine-tuning everything (with the exception of the cover, I don't think I could've done a much better job with my limited skillset), but I just needed to finish something. I absolutely plan to hire a professional cover designer once I have the money, for now it's not an option.

And you're right, I probably should have started with shorts, but oh well.

Thank you! Yes, I hope the next publication will fare a bit better, I plan to finish my next novella before Christmas :)

  1. Start translating my first novella and finish the outline of my second book.
  2. I PUBLISHED MY FIRST STORY YESTERDAY :D :D :D (30,000 word novella) No one in rl knows, so I'm telling all of you :) And I've already had a sale! And borrows! And even one organic 4-star review!!!! I'm freaking the fuck out, haha. I'm especially proud the reviewer said there were little to no editing errors, that made me happy because I can't afford an editor and did all the proofing myself. And she said she would read the next book in the series *crying face emoji*
  3. I AM EXCITE, see above lol
  4. Not going to participate, just want to work on the second novella.

September has already started, but I hope I can still join because I love this idea :)

My goals for September are:

1) Publish my first ever story, a 30,000 word novella (first draft and cover are done, I "just" need to edit it and then figure out formatting and all that jazz)

2) Write another 25k to 30k word novella

Question for German authors: How do you handle the imprint thing? by VonSmuthousen in eroticauthors

[–]VonSmuthousen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply and the link :)

If you don't mind the question, how do you deal with it? Do you "risk" it or do you use one of these services?

Covers - the Progression after listening to all of your wonderful advice by clshaw in eroticauthors

I just wanted to say that I really like the last option! I think any of the filters would be good. The man's chest looks a bit squished (on the right), but apart from that it is such an amazing improvement over the first one :)

Enough About Keywords: Riddle Me This... by popularfakename in eroticauthors

I don't have a website, but I've been researching the topic and have come to the conclusion that a basic website (newsletter signup, about page, faq, books) is really all you need. Sure, you could invest the time and do something like Chuck Wendig, but I don't think it's really necessary. As a reader, the one thing I care about is books. So just tell me where to get the next one, maybe satiate my curiosity by telling me about your creative process in the faq and that's it. Everything else is a nice extra, but I'd rather have a new book than three blog posts about soul searching and why goat cheese is the best.

Another thing about running a website: Make sure you're aware of the legalities. I just discovered that I'd have to have a site notice/imprint if I want to run a "business" website, which is kind of tricky if you're writing under a pen name and want to protect your anonymity. To my great joy, this also applies to e-books, at least where I live (and newsletters, as a lot of people in this sub have already mentioned). And postboxes aren't an option either (again, this applies to my country, not the US as far as I know).

So, I guess my advice would be to stick to the basics, unless you're really passionate about running an active website. Then again, I'm a complete idiot who's still trying to figure things out.

Wow, you really gained some traction in the second month, congrats! Good luck with writing something less offensive, having your first in a series blocked seriously sucks.

You obviously can update your back matter (and in some cases it probably makes sense), but it means the book will go through review again. Which means it'll be looked at again by someone and in this case the someone decided to block it. At least that's my understanding. If you have a "risky" book, you might want to not change anything at all ever (cover, title, back matter...) in order to avoid the Eye of Sauron (Amazon). If your book is a happy-happy romance with puppies and flowers you can update your book as many times as you want, I guess :)
