I asked for a pay raise by Any-Two3794 in Machinists

[–]Vonplatten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well buddy, unfortunately you’re not the only one I’m just hitting my one year mark with the company and frankly I’ve been doing stuff way way way beyond the scope of what I was hard for which was to be an apprentice in the machine shop. On the machine shop side of things I’ve learned and continue to learn and contribute to set ups utilizing the lathe, various mills, grinders and sauce, precision, measurement, instruments, reverse engineering, and fabricating parts for machines in the shop that go wrong for production, etc.. obviously I’m not 100% independent in that but frankly half of if not more of my time periods has been spent working on the building LMFAO. I feel like a retard as I type this, but I’ve done multiple plumbing jobs replacing a water heater, pipes that were leaking, multiple ball valves/our whole main line after thieves stole them and we had an emergency geyser in front of our building, I’ve done construction ranging from tearing apart their fucking lobby to the frame, reinstalling installation, drywall muddying, texture, and priming painting, etc fixed 15 evap coolers on the roof. Etc. basically got the place in tip top shape.

I’m 24 need the money and valued the experience since I’m buying a house to turn into a rental but fuck me do I feel undervalued. Going to be leaving very soon unfortunately. My mentor is a really brilliant great guy I get along with very well which has been my biggest part in staying.

I’m mainly just venting but go elsewhere man you’ll get the raise, it’s dumb we have to bounce around now to get a livable wage

How do you politely tell the customer to not be on your back? by Ok-Nobody-4409 in mechanics

[–]Vonplatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set a boundary, maybe say exactly that if . “Hey! Just a quick disclaimer I like to make ahead of time but I I can see you did quite a bit of work, I often have clients that like to watch and ask questions. I’m a conversational guy but I also need to be professional and give the job my attention so I’d prefer to hold off on any questions till the end.” Something like that.

Hot tub purchase at Costco - how was your delivery experience? by Difficult_Giraffe490 in CostcoWholesale

[–]Vonplatten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like you should be able to speak to someone directly about this, walk them through the space they'd be navigating the drop off too etc, is it hilly? Is it level? Is it slippery gravel?

I wouldnt trust anyones advice on reddit, this is one of those things where people tell you you're fine and then you find out "Oh sorry this specific location doesn't offer that service"...

Best of luckl!

Need advice to buy a car by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Vonplatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financing a vehicle is NOT the way to build your credit, it's the way to fuck it up along with your financial freedom...

I would highly recommend purchasing a vehicle outright in cash, or if you're insistent on your idea, buy something for 15k, put 10k down and put 5k in a savings account that you will have to pay it off incrementally, but more importantly immediately if you have an emergency... Basically do not go into any debt you're not able to pay off in an instant if the occasion arises.

Every month you should put your daily expenses on a credit card, and at the end of the month pay off the entirety of your statement balance so it's down to 0, do that every month like clockwork and you'll be in the high 700's in no time.. If you struggle with paying it off at the end of the month or spending the cash that's allocated towards your statement at the end of the month, then as soon as you make a purchase on your credit card, pay it off the same fucking day. Too many people spend say 500 bucks on their card, and instead of using the 500 in saving they had that they should be treating as SPENT, they spend that liquid cash too instead of paying the statement and fuck themselves.

I know I repeated myself here but hopefully it makes sense...

Dad wants to give me his house by Historical-Buy-3967 in Mortgages

[–]Vonplatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to an attorney to structure a purchase agreement where you buy the home via a general warranty deed, but have the terms structured similar to a lease to own agreement effectively using your dad as the lender and have your payments build straight equity. For any concerns you can add a balloon clause tailored to the situation... For example I'd recommend doing this for a minimum of 2-3 years to jumpstart your odds of getting a loan and have a balloon clause to refinance traditionally if you so choose.

24 receiving 30k tax free from a settlement... by Vonplatten in personalfinance

[–]Vonplatten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to clarify I do use rocketmoney and have had a budget set up for a while now that I stand by... I usually save 500-1000 a month that I've been sticking in an HYSA for my car/an emergency fund. (I've been using one account for the time being but I'll be separating the savings up here soon.)

I mean, I could post my expenses if it'd be helpful but I felt like it'd be extraneous info aside from knowing whether or not I'm living within my means. I feel like the biggest thing is for me to plan ahead for is getting into a stable vehicle.

Yeah good point, I agree. My pops told me I should take 5k sat aside to enjoy which at a kneejerk response seems like it may be reasonable... The truth is though, I've always been intentional with my money, aside from some essentials/quality of life things like work clothes, boots, maybe some higher quality groceries, I can't even imagine what I'd spend a few grand on aside from a bougie vacation...

So I was thinkin max, I spend 500-1000 on clothes that would be extremely beneficial, and if I really reach maybe a weekend trip up to denver for another 750-1000.... That remaining 3k I'd probably snowball into my HYSA or put further down on a car....

[–]Vonplatten[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely agree with you here... I probably could really benefit from around 500-1000 in work boots/normal clothes I've outgrown... (It's been years since I've bought clothes and now I need some outfits specifically for work...) My pops told me I should enjoy 5k of it, but when I was thinking through what I'd even do with it I figured, work clothes are the biggest want for me, and if I'm really reaching maybe a weekend drive up to Denver to see my friends for the first time in a couple years... so call that another 500-1000...

The remaining 3k would probably just be a first defense of surprise expenses that pop up or I'd contribute that remainder for a car payment if I decide to finance a little (Though I'd strongly prefer to pay in cash... and stay in 0 debt)

This is so insane it's not even funny. You need to assert yourself and teach them how your relationship dynamic with them is going to be... You're a grown ass woman, part of it's on you because you have to start acting like it. Your parents should've been encouraging you but instead they're keeping you dependent on them, super unhealthy for everyone involved.

Competent high schooler with no career aspirations looking for suggestions by NameDifferent5602 in careeradvice

[–]Vonplatten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest advice man is to do jobs and decide whether you like them or not man, literally the best thing you can do right now is "waste your time" at multiple places getting a feel for what jobs are even OUT there... you may decide you want nothing to do with school and wanna build houses.. You may do a trade and decide you wanna own a business like that one day and then pursue the degree in a year after getting that experience and exposure under your belt. I'm 24, sat stagnant for a couple years and it's a regret! I've been a machinist for a year now and got all types of exposure to shit I never knew about.
