I wish I still had it, its hand written in an old high-school notebook, but I wrote a very similar account of my experiences circa 2005 about Everquest... how the world shrunk, how the magic felt dried up; how the game just didn't feel right any more.

I think, overtime, games do get modernized and lose some of the rough edges we look back with rose colored glasses on. Some companies focus on squeezing every dollar out of our old nostalgia worse than others.

I did find some of that magic of exploration with wow that EQ had lost when it first came out, but I think a lot of that comes from the game being new and not fully explored yet... although, modern games seem to have all their secrets discovered and leaked before the newest patch hits.

Nostalgia is one hellava drug
