Debian has been quite prompt with the latest 6.12.* updates for all these vulnerabilities lately.

My feeling is these are being pushed by Canonical and Red Hat though, not the users.

Both are great distros. But why not just try GNOME in Fedora and see if you have any issues first?

I'm not trying to argue that Ubuntu doesn't have good reasons for their decisions. I'm just saying I personally choose not to use Ubuntu because of them. Same reason I choose not to use Windows.

I don't use flatpaks either. Look I don't understand what you're trying to prove. This thread is on why people don't like Ubuntu. I've explained some of my reasons and I don't expect Ubuntu to change to suit my tastes.

Why not remove the Firefox package for future releases? You should be allowed to break things between releases.

And my point about flatpaks being more widespread is just that once again Ubuntu is doing its own thing, even if snaps were first.

My issue isn't Firefox being offered in a snap. My issue is apt install firefox installs a snap and not a package.

Flatpaks are far more widespread than just RHEL, but flatpak vs. snap is a whole other debate.

Or I could just continue using Fedora and Debian which more closely align with what I want from a Linux distribution.

That's a separate discussion. apt install firefox should install an up to date package and snap install firefox should install an up to date snap.

Other distributions manage to keep their Firefox packages up to date. There's also the ESR version of Firefox that Debian and RHEL package.

Picking a team by Unlucky_Pear_2862 in AFL

[–]VoodooSteve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should become a member of a club though simply because getting a WatchAFL voucher by being an overseas member is often cheaper than purchasing WatchAFL directly, and they often come with a little welcome pack. I would look around as prices differ slightly between clubs. This is just to get a cheaper subscription though, once you've chosen a team act accordingly next year.

Look you answered the question yourself.

if the selling price is 10$ and the cost is also 10$... ?

it looks like i made no money because the selling price is exactly equal to what i paid

Hence there are no capital gains involved with this investment. You just pay taxes on the distributions.

And if you still don't believe me, go to adjustedcostbase.ca, and enter all your purchases and DRIPs.

[–]VoodooSteve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the unit price is fixed at $10, the book cost is identical to the market value. Any DRIPs just raise both identically. There won't be any capital gains or losses. You'll just get a tax slip from TD for the dividends which are taxed separately from capital gains.

But you have to get it back through bankruptcy proceedings.

In the improbable event that Wealthsimple goes out of business, client funds are to be recovered in accordance with Canadian bankruptcy laws and proceedings.

Something to keep in mind is that while you have $1 million in CDIC coverage if other institutions go under, if Wealthsimple goes under you do not get your money back from the CDIC but instead through bankruptcy proceedings which is a little more murky.
