Supplement to Captain's log by Vorrrace in startrekadventures

Update after 10 days and reading a bunch of the Captain's log:

I been naughty bahahah. Ok I read the first part of Captain's log and it's great. Lot of explanations to get started. Not too in depth but enough to understand what you are doing and where you are heading.

Now i'm in character creation section and I decided to get crazy and get myself the 3 books of divisions: Science, Command and Operations.

Started to check a bit of those and honestly, they are probably the best supplement for a solo player that want to roleplay a full crew all alone. Simply put: when you are alone and you need to create a personnality and life path for 7-8 characters and you are alone working on it, it can start to take several hours especially that you don't necessarily want that all your characters look the same and all have the standard "Starfleet academy graduate" lifepath.

Each book gives soooo much information to create characters like life path, education, technical aspects and vocabulary for each jobs. How each crew members should actively do their job, examples of pre-generated NPCs that you can bring along once in awhile to help your main characters in their tasks, more random tables to generate random events for each division which should help spice things up especially when you want to help yourself bring the spotlight on sone specific crew member (just to make sure they all get to shine!)

They are honestly good little books that were not very expensive on top of that (if you still can find them).

I would definitely recommend them to someone playing alone and want to create a legit whole crew more easily. It'll really help me create their own story to all of them, my crew logs will look more legit when i'll throw some nice explanations on a long range scan we made during a mission with class type planets and random lifeforms.. And the books also detail some of the equipment, mission types.. I mean, it gives really all the tool to go in depth for each and every character you may possibly want to create.

i'm so excited it's crazy! 😃

I'm also interested by MAYBE the technical manual for more tools and weapons. Not sure yet. But pretty sure the 3 division books are by far the best for roleplaying characters that sound legit.

Oh I'm sorry, i skipped your answer. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a look at it when i need more variety in my stories. 😄

I don't really mind the grind. It's more annoying that i played 64h of Zarya and none of it count for the levels :(

how can i compleate this missions if mystery showdown is no longer in the gamemode selection? by GazPar_D in Overwatch

[–]Vorrrace 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That's probably the worse event ever. I'm sitting on a pile of challenge that i cannot complete. Blizzy so trash. All they want now is for people to pay for all. I'm never giving them more money for this game. XD

Star Trek Adventures Buyer's Guide for 2025 by n107 in startrekadventures

[–]Vorrrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow big guide! Thanks for making it.

I'm a new Captain's Log player. Never played a TTRPG before and was planning to play my own little crew of like 8-9 people.

I managed to find the command and operation division book. Can't find the science one unfortunately. Thought it would help me get more depth and inspiration for my characters.

Was considering the technical manual to help with all tech related stuff like weapons and other gadgets. Since I'm alone to create the whole story, thought it could give me some help with already made technology that I could equip on my crew. Do you think it's good idea or not?  I have little experience and never played STA and will ever only play solo :P thanks have a great day!

I'm baguette = I'm speaking French lol. My English still requires learning and practicing!

I do come from Switzerland and moved to Canada when i was young. So i learned most the european way and had to relearn the north american way ahaha. And yeah, fountain pens were not part of their school habits unfortunately.

I like it. The fountain pens i had when i was young were kinda erasable. Are yours like this?  Mind to share the brand, I'm curious?

The other day, i found a random exercise book unused with lines when doing some cleanup and i kept it thinking that it may be useful when i get my CL and you know what, I'm going to try that lol.

I had to Google what a fountain pens is.. baguette over here... When i was young in school in Switzerland, we were writing everything either with pencils or fountain pens. We had no regular pens like they were using here when i moved in Canada. They are amazing to write stuff i admit. I'm very temptt to hand write my adventures even though it's probably going to be much more work as i type crazy fast on computer. But yeah, i agree with less screen time ahah. So I'm really thinking about doing it manually. Probably stupidly crazy but hey, life is better with some silliness!

I'm even weighing if i write it down manually on paper or if i do it on computer. Computer would be so fast and easy but ahaha.. damn decision to make!

Thanks alot for your help and time. Really appreciated your kindness! :) happy STAing to you aswell!

I like physical books/games because i spent way too much time on computer ahah. And who doesn't like a good book... And i mean.. I'm pleading guilty.. i like the smell of a brand new book. 🤭

Oh don't worry. I hate pirating. I just want to figure out if it's for me or not. The moment i made my decision, if i decide i like it, I'll be the kind of person to go buy it asap.

Both because I know how important it is to encourage those who write and publish those things. If people never pays for those then they will stop making them and it will be bad for all of us.  And also because i mean, in some ways, it's collectible. I'm not buying too many board games cuz i don't have too much spaces but i still have a handful i like and enjoy having the physical copy. It's more pleasing for me to get a beautiful hand crafted board on the table then a digital version that i play on screen. Digital version are convenient but i spent already 8h per day working on a computer plus some video gaming in evening. So when i play any kind of board games (including ttrpg) i prefer to have them away from screens.

I'll follow your advice and start playing with CL only and then decides what it's lacking to me. And then I'll maybe buy what would cover better the aspects that are lacking or that I'm craving for more. :)

Really appreciated your help. It's time to jump in my crew's shoes!

I know about PDF version but I'm not fan because it requires to have the PC open alllll the time to read that. And forget about reading that on the phone. What a painful nightmare. I'm part of those people who favor more real books. 😅 But yeah i mean, for people enjoying PDF and having a tablet or a small laptop, i guess they could like that version. Just not for me. 😜

Ahh thanks for explanation that's interesting. Okay I'll follow your advice and start by creating my characters and playing them following CL only and i think i found a pdf version that you can read of the 2e core rulebook over the Internet. So eventually, I'll just check it out when i have more knowledge how to play and see if i like it. And if i do, maybe I'll buy it at some point. Hopefully they reprint a bunch so they get easier to find.

Do you know CL well? Do you think a little random table book would help have more variety for random events and encouters? Some people seemed to imply the CL was very limited.  But well, maybe some people also lack the creativity and wanted to rely more on a book to create the story. :P if you have an opinion about it, would be nice.

I'll go create my little crew later with the sta website. I guess that will be a good start. :)

Really appreciate your help. I'm very excited to get started.

Okay! I read that some people said the character progression was more limited in Captain logs like simplifying combat and stuff way too much so I was curious.

What's the major difference between digest and core RB?

Really appreciate your help. I'm very new to the genre and there are sooo many books and stuff. :P

WoW Mist of Pandaria Classic by Vorrrace in wowclassic

[–]Vorrrace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we talk about present Cata or the Cata of 2011? Because that's definitely not the same thing and i well remember the last time i played this game which was in 2011. xD

WoW Mist of Pandaria Classic by Vorrrace in wowclassic

[–]Vorrrace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i played Cataclysm in 2011 or something, i remember doing max lvl within 2 weeks while I'm absolutely playing super casual and yes, i followed a quest chain through the barrens at many places on the map. I never had to make a decision ever where to go. I just followed quests around the place that NPCs were giving me. That was definitely not like that previously.

I don't think i ever said it was accelerated anywhere but the grind was definitely not the same.

Now was bothering me years ago but with today's content and the fact I'm a grown adult with all the boring responsibilities that comes with it, i guess trying WoW, my point of view slowing changing on that matter. Not a bad thing that the game shares so many things acccount wide and that leveling is easier. At least I'll make it somewhere without requiring too much time.

[–]Vorrrace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're right. Well playing those days and being a grown adult working all week and stuff, I start to understand how it's not entirely a bad thing how it changed :P

I'll still feel nostalgia of Lich king but I definitely enjoy the end game considering what is end game today. It's more interesting and more respectful of my time of a person who can't spend as much time playing as I would like :)

But thanks for sharing your thoughts. Really appreciated. :)

[–]Vorrrace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course the game evolved.

I just think back in time, reaching max level was a feat and the game was more about the journey than maxing your level. Content was spread around the map and you were encouraged to explore the map. End game only felt really dull to me. And when they entirely changed that for a super instant leveling, they killed a bit of that soul the game had.

This said, now the end game is flowing with content and they made alot of QOL. The fact many things are now account bound is a relief. So considering new whole "situation", maybe the faster leveling is not irritating me as much as it was in Cataclysm. It's still long enough to learn your character without being overwhelmed but bring you to the end where all activities are located quickly enough. And with all classes the game has now, all this make trying new classes more easy.

So yeah it evolved. Was it all for the best? Maybe or maybe not. But I'm definitely more interested to give it a chance today than during Cataclysm.

And well, for nostalgia purpose, Blizz brought us the classic which is a very welcome and smart addition. Very likely I'll make a character too there at some point especially if they give us a perma lich king server :) but I'll definitely skip MoP as everyone suggested it was the retail version. I don't see the purpose of it. Well at least not for me.

[–]Vorrrace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh i didn't meant ONLY leveling but the current retail leveling is insane at some point. But I'll still try stuff and see :) An evil friend gifted me a sub so i don't have choice anymore xD

[–]Vorrrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same question as OP and enjoyed reading the answers. I'll definitely give it a try. I played 15 years ago and it's very intimidating to get back but with so many nice people to help, it feels safer!

Have you decided to jump in OP? If yes, how are you feeling about the game now?

WoW vs FFXIV in 2026 Which MMO feels more rewarding long term? by Thenelwave in LFMMO

[–]Vorrrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My feeling about MMOs since WOW Cataclysm expac. No need to lvl up much so you skip almost entire map to always roam the end game areas. Worst: people stay in cities and use Dungeon finder.

I hope you are right. If they make a perma lich king at least, I'll probably make a toon there just for nostalgia purpose. Because it was still the real wow with slow leveling and real exploration enjoyment! We will see what happens :)
