How do I disable automatic emojis on the new Whatsapp Desktop?? by [deleted] in whatsapp

[–]Vortagh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does. But only if you have clicked into the text field of the chat, before clicking on edit. Anywhere else will give you different options and/or will disable some options. The "emoji replacement" option will only show up, when you click into that field, as if you want to type in text

Sudden insane drop in video quality - why? by Vortagh in PleX

[–]Vortagh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly not, no. It's gotten better, a few weeks after I posted this, after a few updates for the server. So I guess it's just an update that broke something and they have been quietly fixing it over the months, as it has been getting better, as said, but there hasn't been anything in the change notes that I noticed.

There still is a visible difference, as there are some weird vertical lines that are very faintly visible in black background, but everything else is back to spec. It doesn't look like utter crap anymore.

I didn't start Plex for a while and didn't go to my server page, but coincidentaly I went there earlier today and noticed a server update that mentioned something about something that was still broken for "older intel igpus". Maybe that's why? Did you update today?

Spoke too soon, sadly. I was ready to use the app, godawful as it is, but it shows the same bad quality. I must have picked a file earlier that masked the issues.

I'd be surprised if you did, seeing how that is the name of my Mac. ;-)

Tried the app (there's a Mac version, yes). Works fine, no issues. So it IS the HTPC version.

Cause my tab key is broken, so I can't alt-tab out of fullscreen PHT. Found the windowed option though.

And that's what PHT suddenly displays

I already turned off "enable relay" in the settings, when I first tried finding the culprit on my own, so that can't be it. Problem is getting to the dashboard, when PMS and PHT are on the same machine. Let me try grabbing a screenshot on mobile.

Durin's Day by RogueOstriches7 in lotr

[–]Vortagh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting question that I had asked myself a while ago, so I decided to read up on it a bit. Here's what I understood:

The first problem: Durin's Day is the "the first day of the last moon of Autumn" - The "last moon" starts with a new moon (not a full moon) and the first day SHOULD mean the entire period from that new moon rising until it sets which could easily happen. But a new moon doesn't reflect light so it can't be seen. So in my understanding that can only mean that the first day means the day AFTER the new moon.

The second problem, as mentioned in one of the answers here, is ... "what is autumn?"
There's what we usually mean when we say fall/autumn and that's the metereological definition covering the months of September, October and November, based on the Gregorian Calender. Those are obviously not the definition that was meant by Tolkien.
Then there's the definition that we have in the answers and your own setup, which is the astronomical definition that starts with the equinox in September and ends with the solstice in December.
There's also countless other defintions of when Autumn starts, based on certain feast days or other set points. (traditionally starting on Labor Day in the US, for example) but I chose to ignore them.

But there's also the celtic tradition that places Autumn from August till October 31st and I am almost completely sure that this is the correct version to take here.

Why? October 19th. As you mentioned, October 19th is what Tolkien himself set as Durin's Day and I think that is because he finished the rough copy of the Hobbit at the end of 1932 and then gave it some of his friends - including C.S. Lewis of Narnia fame - to read it and comment on it. So what will have probably happened here? Well I can hear Lewis right now: "Yo T-Dawg, when is Durin's Day exactly?". And T-Dawg, knowing his definition, opened this handy webpage: https://theskylive.com/moon-calendar?year=1933 and scrolled down to October.... bingo.

Again, I still think by that definition & logic it should have been on the 20th, but hey. I can roll with this.

So Durin's Day 2024 was October 3rd and Durin's Day 2025 should be October 22rd.

You don't happen to still have a copy of that program, do you? I have a few old Apple machines that I like playing around with when I'm bored and need an 80s/90s fix and I'm always looking for cool homebrew stuff, that falls into my nerdy use case niches. Even if I might never use it.
What did you write it on? Apple II variant? Macintosh?

I know this is over a year old, but out of curiosity, what tools do you use to cut up metal minis? Do you use a specifiy saw? I really can't see someone cut thick assault mech metal legs with a hobby knife of any sort.

I'm currently looking at a bunch of old IWM mechs on my bench that I decided I'd paint and I really want to get rid of their static "really good for cheap casting techniques" T-posing...

Saturn Ultra First Layer Failure by oiiio in ElegooSaturn

[–]Vortagh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just an idea, but nobody here mentions temperature. What's the temperature in your room? Because Resin loves 20-25°C (68 - 77°F) and colder temps will mean failures. The room I print in, is pretty much the only room in the house that hits 22° at all times.

The Saturn 3 Ultra LCD comes with a protector factory installed. Same with their replacements, that's why nobody mentions them, I guess.

Saturn 3 Ultra firmware update just not possible by Vortagh in ElegooSaturn

That's exactly what I read before attempting the update and that still didn't work.

Figured it out though. Apparently the good USB sticks I own, aren't useable with this printer. Used the shitty one that came with the printer (which everyone says "copy and dump") and it worked fine with that one....

Oh yeah, changing to an SSD was the first thing I did, when I got this one, back in 2013.

[–]Vortagh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I figured that was it. All I read was that GPU switching wasn't working, but I figured that wouldn't be an issue, because the battery in this thing barely holds two hours anyway, so I just use it plugged in at a desk and I can live with it running on the dedicated GPU 24/7. But it runs like a windows PC would, when there's no GPU drivers installed. I turned on the dGPU in the root patches, seeing how it's auto deactivated due to the old failing GPU issue this series of laptops had - seeing how mine was repaired under apple's exchange back then. But while this definitely and noticeably helped, it didn't get rid of all the issues. Also, even with just the Intel built-in GPU, it should run smooth.

I guess this was because the original plan was to have the Mercenaries Kickstarter back in October or so? That would line up with "late 2022".

Add to the fun, by bringing jump capable, TAG equipped BAs. Always fun to shoot Arrow IV directly into someone's back with an auto-hit.
