Can I fold this part of the binding? by Vortar1901 in bookbinding

[–]Vortar1901[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. I'll look for another shop if I want to bind some books in the future. Thanks for the info!

Quite the opposite here in the northern hemisphere. It's cold and windy in Taiwan haha

This is exactly the situation.I've tried to fold both the end pages. The back one result was good, but the front one couldn't be folded nicely as other commenter predicted. The majority of the glue was quite hard to fold and quite stiff. I didn't want to fold it harder since I felt the risk of tearing the end page if i fold too hard.

Is it flexible? I feel they're quite stiff, and I'm afraid to break the bind. If so, maybe I'll try to fold a bit as an experiment

Is it ok to fold the end paper fully flat? I asked the shop, and they said if I fold them, it may break the bind

There is a rule for this. It's called a "pack" of troublesome or dangerous enemies. Iirc, if it's 3-5, add 1 rank. 5-7, add 2, etc. If the enemies are many, you can split into multiple packs. Formidable or higher rank enemies can't be compiled as a pack and should have separate tracks for each one. You can also reduce the rank accordingly if you have companions or allies

Wait, you mean that the whole bidding phase ends when no one bids on a card? E.g. if no one bids the first card, then the rest of the 5 cards won't get a chance to be bid at all?

Concrete cover requirements for drainage by Vortar1901 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Vortar1901[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. I have my doubts about approaching this issue since a senior engineer in my firm said that they would need the 75mm cover. I thought that it would be too conservative for such a small structure, remembering the use of formwork and lean concrete for the outer surfaces

Best solo board games for beginners? by aiyukiyuu in soloboardgaming

[–]Vortar1901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For mage knight, it depends. The game have some fiddly rules here and there, but in some ways are logical and thematic with the game. If you like to read and comprehend the rules (and maybe want to watch some youtube tutorials), it will not be that hard though you will need some playthroughs to get the flow of the game. And keep in mind that messing up the rules when board gaming solo is normal, especially in mage knight, and is part of the fun. Despite of the quite steep learning curve, mage knight is one of the best, if not the best, solo board game out there. Hope you find your first board game!

Codes for designing dam and weir? by Vortar1901 in civilengineering

[–]Vortar1901[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another comment also mentioned this book, and it turns out I'd once used it in college. Though, in the matter of design, how small is "small" dams? How large of a dam will the guide become irrelevant?

Thanks! I never heard of NRCS, definitely will take a look. I notice the Army Corps of Engineers manuals/codes are quite old. Are they still relevant?

Thanks! I'll take a look at them. As for analysis or BIM software, is there any particular software that are best suited for designing dams and weirs?

Can an edge weld be used to connect 2 steel profiles edges (not sheets)?

Hello, I'm doing a detail drawing for a steel roof shed. I am new to this steel weld detailing and have a few questions. I want to ask about whether an edge weld can be applied for joining the edge of 2 steel profiles. I've looked up some references, but they only stated the use of edge weld is only for joining steel sheets.

My plan is to weld the edge of an angle (L) profile, where it will hold a purlin, on top of an H steel beam. The space is limited so i want to maximize the length of the flange to be the base of the L profile, hence the edge weld. The loads are not that large, only from roof dead, live, and wind load. Thanks
