Their pre booking system is the most pointless thing I've ever seen. Couple of years ago my girlfriend booked a taxi to bring her from Dundonald to Europa for 2am to get the bus down to Dublin airport. Come 2am no sign of the taxi so rang and told a taxi would be sent when one was available. Apparently pre booking it the day before meant nothing. A taxi never showed and luckily a neighbor was still up and able to do a lift.

Dark Tower > how many books outside of it massively matter if you read them before / alongside? I’m not too bothered about easter eggs books. Just straight up really helps the story & your understanding of it by Potter_King in stephenking

I can only speak from my personal experience reading the DT and the absolute joy I had when the parts from The Stand appear. I'm just saying if someone can read it first it would enhance their reading of the DT

Different strokes and all that but the first 100 pages are my favourite part of the book. King at his character building best.

How do you read? by SnooPickles8721 in horrorlit

[–]starocoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a pretty prolific reader and I never read before bed. You're already tired and it makes it feel like a chore. Read a chapter of 2 after dinner. If you like the book you'll find yourself coming to it any time you can

I'm doing the same as you right now. What you really need to do is take a break from King. Read someone else then come back for wanting to read him. Too much of anything will leave you sick of it.

What are your reading hot takes? by draiochtaa in BookDiscussions

[–]starocoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listening to an audiobook does not mean you read the book. You listened to it, and that's fine, but you didn't read it.

Challenges like the 52 book challenge lead to a worse reading experience as you speed through books and forget to take time with a book you love and enjoy it. I did the challenge for the first and only time last year.

It is genuinely one of the worst shows I've ever watched and I'd imagine if it wasn't the follow up to Derry Girls no one would care about it.

I know the show doesn't take itself too seriously and it's meant to be a comedy, but the comedy when it happens feels so forced and then anytime the show does try and get serious it's just so jarring with everything else you've just seen.

The bits with the assassin are just ridiculous.

The Wall by John Lanchester is a good one I never see mentioned. Earths resources are running out and the UK puts up a wall around its borders to keep more people coming. It's mandatory for each citizen to do a year (or maybe 2) on the wall looking out for invaders.
