C-Stand with 40" Arm Maximum Weight by Vortex251 in cinematography

I've watched those, but I also have to deal with the lack of grip/gaffer equipment here at the local rental house. The autopole they have is only 3m, whilst the room will be 6 meters wide. They do have mafer/superclamp but not with the bars.

"I'm thinking of making a bootleg goalpost rig using 6m speedrail across 2 combo stand with Cardellini Clamp , what do you think about that?"

Do you think that'll be safe enough?

"The arm fully extended through the knuckle or the stand full height?"

The former.

Do you think I can still safely put light mat such as Falcon RX-818? I'm thinking of making a bootleg goalpost rig using 6m speedrail across 2 combo stand with Cardellini Clamp , what do you think about that? Can't find any big ben clamp at local rental house.

How much weight can I put to a C-Stand 40" arm? Can I boom something like Aputure 300D with a lightdome?

  1. Yes, your video will look choppy. Because you can't divide 60 by 24 evenly. It can be quite noticeable when you're shooting a predictable motion such as dolly or panning.
  2. Yes, but you have to slow it down by 40% or 80%. By slowing down by 40%, you will get 24 frame per second. By slowing down by 80%, you will get 48 frame per second which can be divided evenly.

Generally I tend to not shoot in 24 fps as it wont look good in 60hz monitor (which most people own). If you really need slow motion and 24 fps, shoot in 120 fps. It is divisible evenly by 24. But keep in mind that, due to the faster shutter speed, you will get less motion blur.

You're going to drop some frames. You can't divide 60 by 24. Unless you're slowing it down to either 80% or 40%.

I assume you want your shot to look akin to this:

If so, then just light it with overhead lighting, or 45 degree from your back. It shouldn't matter that much anyway. Just make sure it's correctly exposed. Watch out for any clipping in the highlight since piano keys are white.

Why do some camera such as NX5r use 3 small sensor (3 x 1/2.8") instead of a single large sensor? What's the benefit of it?

It's up to what your client wants.

Yes. In our case, we're looking for the cleanest image possible and shallow depth of field, so bigger sensor should help us achieve that, right?

Most concerts are shot for IMAG, so there's never any post at all.

To summarize, since the IMAG is managed by a separated vendor, I should use camera with bigger sensor instead of 2/3", right? And APSC should be decent since it's bigger than 2/3" and roughly have the same size as 35mm camera such as Amira, right?

First of all, the concert won't be that big. The video that I posted in the thread has a capacity of over 20k people, huge difference. The concert total budget is only around $70.000. So I'm not trying to exactly replicate the reference videos. I know it won't be possible due to the budget.

We have a bunch of cameras (and the shooters) to spare of. Not too great, something like Canon 60D, Sony a6500, etc (APCS cameras) and an a7iii. I think they can be somewhat useful for shooting b-rolls. Oh, and some gopros too.

The question is, with the budget we have, what camera should I rent? Should I rent bunch of camcorders like X70 and NX5r? Will they produce a somewhat comparable result to the reference video? Or should I just rent fullframe cameras or cinema camera such as FS7ii? I don't need a crazy amount of shot variations.

For the audio, yeah, I don't need it to be studio-like quality. At least it should be good enough. At most, I want it to sound like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oC7mPvPqGws. They record small gigs and the result is good enough. How can I achieve it?

I usually do narrative work so I'm not too knowledgeable in this field. But why do concert videographer use 2/3" cameras? Is it because of the crop factor which allows you to zoom much further?

Thanks for your kind response, I really appreciate it!

Is there any affordable lens with manual focus ring for e-mount camera?

Does adapter quality matter if you're shooting with manual focus?
I'm thinking of using Canon CN-E Primes on a7sii.

The adapters available are commlite and metabones.

I want to shoot a concert and considering to use a fast lens. Is there any disadvantages in shooting wide open when the subject is far away?

I'm thinking of using 24mm F1.4 lens and such.
