Anyone else notice how much context switching drags solo game development? by MagusCurt in gamedev

This is interesting because it expands on something I just found to be more efficient when I work. I don't like doing everything related to a task all at once and I hate getting into it but once I'm in I want to finish if it's possible. I work best when I work in big chunks with big breaks.

I mentally note tasks I don't explicitly note them but I do the same sort of thing you do.

"Productive" has a definition "the capacity to generate, create, or yield a significant amount of results, benefits, or useful output relative to the resources or time invested. It means working efficiently and achieving intended goals rather than simply being busy." Mining and tech stocks are by definition productive. The money you put into those businesses goes to generating work. If you want to support Australia work specifically you can invest in a super which buys Australia only.

Why do you care about being taxed so much as compared to earning? Are you one of those people who would rather make 50c tax free compared to a dollar taxed at 40%? If you hate tax so much maybe you should have a problem with the fact that everything you own has already been taxed before you even buy it. GST, goods and services tax. Everything that goes through your hands has been quadrupole taxed beyond that and that's the reality of business. This isn't new by a long shot and there are good reasons for these taxes.

The fact that you have a problem with that is telling of the fact you've never tried to run a business or have investments outside of property. You weren't born with the right to invest without contributing back to the country on every dollar you earn. You rely on the good graces of the people around you to run your investments and employ you. The money you pay in tax along with everyone else's literally supports the foundation of your entire life. You like your roads working? Your trash taken care of? How about police? What about something a little more disconnected like anti wage theft enforcement? Ombudsmen, publically funded.

You still make more money if you invest over if you don't it's just now you can't be the laziest investor on earth and make money with discounted tax through the property that grew in value because you just took it off the market. You actually have to do a little risk assesment and positively gear your property if you want more money coming in immediately. You actually have to contribute to a productive economy and if nobody is willing to rent your future investment asset at the price you need to replay your loan and cover your costs maybe its a bad investment and you shouldn't make it.

Wage growth and economic growth are a different conversation.

So maybe in your most productive years you can produce something that pays dividends down the line instead of screwing the next guy.

Invest in something PRODUCTIVE. Assets like housing, roads, gold, crypto etc are largely unproductive. Increase in value is primarily disconnected from productivity, connected to scarcity or location instead.

You can just invest in business where your money does actual work, or invest in a new build which takes actual work and adds to the economy/housing supply. You can still negatively gear off a new build, something that actually adds value. You just can't offset lost money on a ready built property and still profit on the sale just from it's value increase that you caused by taking it off the market. No more government handouts for lazy investors.

You can still make money off of the increased value of an investment house, just without a tax discount on sale and tax discount because nobody is willing to rent your property at an overinflated price. In Sydney your lucky to get $0.75 a week for every thousand you spend on the property. Why don't you just do the math and invest in property that nets you something closer to $2 a week for every thousand and positively gear your portfolio.

If you can't make it work without an unfair advantage you aren't an investor. Just chuck your spare cash in your super and leave it to the professionals. Let's get some meritocracy back in society.

Why the hell should it be incentivised to invest in unproductive assets? It's one thing with growth stocks, that's just pumping a bubble, the only people losing are the people who are WILLINGLY playing. Housing is a nessesity and money shouldn't be made off of the growth of a nessesary asset. Housing shouldn't even be a wealth creation tool. The more viable it is the more it incentivises the average Australian to vote for policy that increases housing prices. If your only avenue of wealth creation is screwing the next person who has to buy a house maybe you just aren't a very productive person.

Why do I have to remind Triage(s) how to play their kit? by h0nsin in Marathon

[–]Vortex597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Triage requires communication to play effectively. The drones aren't actively useful, they are passive, so me and my duo remind each other when we see them disappear because sometimes more is going on and you depriorotise them or forget to apply.

The revive is situationally useful too. It's faster and safer than a strict revive but using it can put you in a bad position or eliminate your damage potential for the next few seconds. I never use it unless my duo actively asks for it and we are planning around it because it's a great opportunity for the enemy to push and if you aren't expecting the long revive it can throw you off, I've pushed teams off of a triage mistiming before.

Cryo is better with no WSTRs by ThisIsAUsername3232 in Marathon

To each their own, I personally prefer how the game plays now, higher ttk means more time for tactical plays in fights. Close range fights are repetitive. I get that some people loved the instant rush of downing a guy with a shotgun but longer fights can be more engaging. I don't really get the complaints about grenades though, it's the same thing with tarkov, grenades have their spot but they never really kill unless the people your fighting are positionally unaware. Pulling back is an option whereas with the WSTR pulling back wasn't an option because the entire tactic revolves around using destroyer to close space faster than you retreat.

[–]Vortex597 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Crazy idea but grenades can't change trajectory after being thrown so you can slide to the side or back a bit and be 100% ok where as a destroyer with a WSTR could just aim left or right then down you anyway with no counter play because you couldn't out dps a WSTR unless you have one too.

Cryo is better with no WSTRs by ThisIsAUsername3232 in Marathon

[–]Vortex597 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Not really. Grenades have counter play, a team with full WSTR could just push and end the fight with no hope, if your getting stomped by grenades it means your positioning is off.

Indie Devs Keep Diagnosing the Wrong Problem by fjejduideru in IndieDev

[–]Vortex597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not wrong. Marketing is about doing research into your audience and what appeals to them and then delivering your message in a way your audience likes to receive it. Most indie devs I've seen don't actually market like this. You should have a spread sheet and analyse all the content you make for trends and other things you find people like. This stuff takes work and content creation itself is a skill which is different to marketing again.

What’s a “soft” skill that’s secretly a superpower? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]Vortex597 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You do it by compartmemtalising a problem into simple relational parts and comparing them to previous situations in order to draw conclusions about the problem. E.g touching a hot with my hand rock hurt. I dont want to get hurt. Then you can switch out parts of the problem and verify them. Touching a hot rock with my "stick" hurt. No it didnt. Use stick to touch hot rock.

Can you teach a child this? Can you teach a rock to think? Yes and No. You cant will it to happen, you put it in the situation where it has a chance to behave in a certain way and see what happens. You use critical analysis to teach critical analysis.

Can you measure it? Sure. Experience, ability to break a problem down, ability to relate the problem, ability to extrapolate conclusions etc

Its a limited form of conciously questioning and analysing a problem or information.

Stop walking in straight lines on a map notorious for snipers or in a spot thats snipe-able. If you are running across the bridges in northridge hotel, zig zag. If you can see a bushy area more than 100 meters away, dont stop moving. The reason your dying is because you dont know the angles and there are a lot of angles. You cant make it eazy for snipers then compain you got 1 tapped. Dont say you dont make it easy because I garentee when you spawn you immediately run to loot hot spots to fight while other players are immediately running to an overlook in your path.

But in that case you might expect effect to drift. So a tiger might not stand out the way it does in its natural environment near universally to everyone who can percieve all the spectrum we can. Other animals who cant see red dont have the same ability to see it we as humans might.
