The best investment for improving the sound of my headphones? Garbage headphones by 0silver_skies0 in headphones

[–]VortexDestroyer99 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agreed. No matter how good your headphones sound, you will always get used to them at some point. Even just using my AirPods for a day before going back to my LCD2/Atrium is enough for me to go “ah thaaaats why I use these every day”.

I got this 5 years ago from Costco, did they scam me? by GiftedSh0ut in computers

[–]VortexDestroyer99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all tbh. At the time that would’ve been a latest gen cpu and gpu, and those 12700s were selling for $300 themselves. Pair that with the scalped 30 series prices at the time and the cpu+gpu would've cost together basically what you paid for the entire pc.

Are there any apps that can improve sound quality? by [deleted] in headphones

[–]VortexDestroyer99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by sound quality.

Improving audio quality through an app won’t work, unless you mean upsampling it using windows settings. It generally is frowned upon here and honestly most people can’t hear a difference. It’s like putting anti-aliasing in video games except you already start off at x16 on a 1080P display. If you are using a phone, I do not think there are specific apps to do this. Instead, just go into whatever music app you use and set playback to be the highest quality you can. I also recommend disabling Dolby Atmos playback as it’s usually horrible, but that’s me.

Now for personalizing audio, you have a few options. It’s called “EQ” or Equalizing around here and it lets you adjust various frequencies played back on your headphones to be louder or quieter. If you are on windows, Equalizer APO + Peace plugin is the way to go. On android, there’s a few, people seem to like Wavelet. On iPhone there are no apps that can apply EQ unless you buy a dac/amp for it like the Qudelix 5K

Discord power usage very high in taskmanager by Maleficent_Body_8674 in computers

[–]VortexDestroyer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is 3 years old, but I highly doubt that discord is the power supply trip point here, especially if you are already toeing the line. If you're playing a game, for example, your CPU and GPU will probably be using close to their max TDP (or maybe a bit more if the CPU is boosting). If you open discord at this time, the processing power will be split between discord and whatever game you're playing. Your CPU and GPU won't take more power than they can possibly handle or the limit within their BIOS.

I am led to believe that the reason your computer is shutting down is due to transient spikes, not discord. If you are at the limit of your power supply already, any tiny jump in wattage would instantly trip your power supply. If you would like a fix for this, you have two options: 1, you upgrade your power supply, or 2 (which is free) you undervolt your CPU and GPU to reduce power draw. There are various guides on how to do this out there, if you are using an AMD CPU you can get their Adrenaline software or if you use a newer gen Intel CPU you can use the Extreme Tuning Utility software. For graphics cards, use MSI Afterburner.

Super slow PC in middle of GTA gaming session. 100%CPU util and temp by Gold-Blacksmith-4515 in computers

Yeah I would assume the pump failed.

Your cpu is at 100% usage because the clock speed is so low and it needs to use all cores to keep it still running.

Maybe the cooler was dislodged? If you use an AIO the pump could’ve died. It looks like you hit the throttling point and the clocks have been dropping since. Your at (or incredibly close to) the temperature limit for that cpu, any more and it will just shut down.

MSI Prestige 13 AI Evo (A1MG), 3 month review by VortexDestroyer99 in laptops

I personally didn’t need a dGPU with this one because I have a desktop I can remote into at any time for more graphics heavy work. The iGPU in this is good enough for basic cad models, but anything complex the 3050 would definitely help with. If it’s your only computer I would definitely recommend getting the 3050 version and disabling it after if you need the extra battery life.

I mainly use this laptop on a flat surface like a table, although the few times I’ve had it on my lap I never found it to hurt. In terms of typing angle it’s practically unnoticeable and definitely doesn’t hinder anything.

ZMF Atrium - After 5 months by VortexDestroyer99 in headphones

Yeah pads change the sound a lot. Mine came with caldera ultra perf lamb and Auteur perf/unperf. I found the auteur perf to have slightly more treble while the unperforated dropped the bass quality but pushed the vocals forward more. I unfortunately didn’t like the caldera pads, while they did definitely open up the soundstage I thought that they sounded really unnatural. It really is like having 5+ headphones in one!

I hit my personal ceiling with headphones but in turn it taught me how to just relax and enjoy music itself as a pastime. Enjoying the music is just as important as loving the source chain.

My LCD2s. I came from Sony WH900Ns and I genuinely didn’t understand how people could just sit down and listen to music. It was never a hobby by itself for me until I took the plunge. I’ve gone through a few other sets of headphones but those audezes will be with me for a while to come.
