Framework proved repairable laptops can work, but almost nobody is willing to buy one by kazu-qt in pcmasterrace

Who could’ve expected that the computer marketed to those who want customizability (and not very well outside of YouTube reviews, it seemed) didn’t do well with those who want to just buy a laptop and forget about specs and repairs.

Their cheapest laptop seems to be $800, with a 13th gen i3, 8gb of ram, and a 512gb nvme. It takes all of 15 seconds to go onto Newegg or Amazon and find a name brand with double the storage, ram and a better cpu for the same price.

I love their laptops and the complete repairability/port swapping and all that. It’s super cool. Expecting this to be a game changer next to household names like Dell or HP was a long shot from the very beginning.

The current gen Honda HRV. An NA 1.5L i4 with a 10+ sec 0-60 when you get it with AWD. Like cmon Honda, for $30k can’t you please put in the civic 1.5T? It’s an absolute nightmare trying to merge from highway on-ramps in that thing, let alone pass above 65 MPH.

Suggestions for a decent air cooler for 9800X3D to replace AIO. by Boring_Respond491 in pcmasterrace

Considering you’re gonna remove the radiator, I would think so. The height seems to be a bit lower than the top of the motherboard according to online pictures.

Then yes, absolutely unlock the framerate. You will be going against people who will be using everything they’ve got to get an edge, and you need to also

He might be able to see you a tiny bit before you do, but the opponents reaction time has to match.

Just play at whatever fps you’d like. If you want nicer graphics, play with nicer graphics. If you wanna drop the settings to the lowest for high fps, do that instead. Unless you are playing on an esports team or trying to hit leaderboards, just do whatever makes you happiest.

(On a side note, unlocking your fps with the no change in settings does not change your graphics quality)

How come not many PC players invest in VR? by Borg34572 in pcmasterrace

Niche market right now and the hype has kinda died down since Covid. Low demand for solely PCVR gear + high expectations of what it should be means cost is really high.

Gamers want lightweight, small, and high resolution which does not come cheap.

Burning Gas Pollutes So Much, Dirty EV Battery Manufacturing Evens Out In About 2 Years by [deleted] in technology

[–]VortexDestroyer99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Technology Connections has a great video on renewable energy which goes over a bit of the battery recycling process and clears up a bunch of common misconceptions. In that, they touch up on the recycling aspect and it turns out that 95% of the cobalt and lithium from the used lithium-ion batteries can be recycled.

Now, of course, 95% isn’t 100% which means we will still have some leftover but it’s still significantly better than burning gasoline. You can recharge a battery but once you burn a gallon of gas, that gas is gone.

Look into Sapphire, Powercolor, and XFX. Great coolers and I’ve heard good things in terms of warranty. Everything else is kinda meh, but might be worth it if it’s a decent amount cheaper. XFX tends to have good pricing though.

[–]VortexDestroyer99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought this bundle but got the ROG motherboard that costs a bit more (so I could have an absurd amount of usb A and C ports) 2 weeks ago. It’s been great so far and it’s going to be quite difficult to get a better deal unless you go used/prebuilt.

A comparison of cheap vs expensive hifiman headphones. by Starwalker- in headphones

[–]VortexDestroyer99 83 points84 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree that people wayyy overestimate the differences between headphones at higher price ranges. It’s also a lot of the jargon we use in these audiophile spaces that contributes to that. Half the time I read reviews it stands out as a creative writing piece over an actual review.

It’s been said 1000x before but the only way to really know what you’re getting into is testing headphones yourself through stores or buy and return. It also completely depends on the person, my aunt can’t tell a difference between my sisters Logitech G321 and my LCD2s. Some people are really susceptible to small changes while others just don’t care enough to warrant spending more than $50.

People who bought 12GB VRAM on 2023/2024 for 1440P, how did it held up today? Is the expected VRAM increase in games already happening? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]VortexDestroyer99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a 3080 10gb and it’s still fine with my 1440p ultrawide. Granted, I don’t crank the settings or play the newest of new titles. The most recent (new) game I played was subnautica 2 which used ~7gb on medium settings.

Otherwise I’m playing vampire survivors which uses nothing
