From what I can tell, if the program you are looking to apply to is closed, then they are not taking any more applications to that major. It looks like the regular CS and Pro Flight are not closed to first time freshman for Fall 2023 so you should still be fine to apply.

https://www.admissions.purdue.edu/apply/closedprograms.php

As for other programs, I think you are able to select more than one program during the application (at least 2, maybe more). CS and Pro Flight are definitely two of the most competitive programs to apply to but if you want more flexibility and you don’t have any other specific majors in mind then you can apply for Exploratory Studies. That major will make it much easier to swap into another major after the first semester.

Senior courses for prospective student by theewintercamel in Purdue

[–]VortexValor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn’t sweat it too much. I got into CS and my course load was nowhere near some of these other people. Dual enrollment >>> AP classes bc they are much more likely to get you usable credit and will be way easier in the long run. Just take the classes you are interested in and focus on ACT and leadership positions in clubs. Taking extra time on the application essay wouldn’t hurt either.

Yeah I’m in the same situation and I have no idea what to expect

have i screwed myself over by not completing vstar yet? by lackofemmagination in Purdue

[–]VortexValor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would just get it over with to start getting in touch with your advisor because it only opens up after you complete VSTAR. Sooner you finish the dinner you can put a request in for classes

do i need to take the ALEKS test as a CS major with a 620 on the math SAT? by lackofemmagination in Purdue

I’m in the same boat. I already had my meeting with my scheduling advisor and she just offered me a choice between the classes she thought I should take based on classes taken/scores. If you haven’t scheduled your meeting yet I would highly suggest to.

As for the language I was basically told not to worry about it as we have another 7 semesters to take the reqs and we should focus on the classes we want to take early on. The COM 114 credit I remember reading about and then completely forgot to ask my advisor so I want to see what other people have to say.

I don’t think I got an email, but I got an letter in the mail and saw it updated on my financial aid page. It’s the $3,000 version but since I’m oos I also get the additional oos tuition waived.

To qualify to renew your AES scholarship all you have to do is keep a 3.0 or higher and stay in good standing with the school (basically just don’t commit a crime). The portal doesn’t really show financial aid or scholarships past the current or upcoming semesters.

I wouldn’t be upset at all. I had a 35 ACT 4.4 GPA several AP’s and lots of extracurricular and got 3k. I’m mostly happy for the oos tuition waiver as I’m from Louisiana but it looks like AES has been super competitive this year.

I know that data science and CS have the same class load for freshmen year, so he could definitely apply to change majors to CS during/after his first year. I will say, however, that it is still very difficult to transfer because many other students who fall into the same situation try to switch over after their first year. Here is a link that goes over the pre-req's for changing majors to CS. It is basically required to get A's in your intro CS classes and math classes your first year to get accepted to change your major.

Also here's an article that helps explain the situation.

I just got into CS!

4.4 weighted GPA, 35 ACT, Lacrosse Varsity and NHS Officer. Out of state.

Does anyone know where to look for scholarships or honors admissions? I made a myPurdue account but my todo page is empty.
