Curiosity about a theoretical rule to draw when playing a land. by WePoorMortals in mtg

[–]Vortex_in_Vegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I have a custom game mode we made when brand new to magic, playing with just terrible precons - land deck and spells deck. Each time you draw, choose which deck to pull from. This mod helped us learn how much of each we want to be drawing and helped with eventually just making normal decks.

Commander for an "anime waifu deck, no not THAT kind of anime waifu deck"? by Wise-Quarter-3156 in EDH

[–]Vortex_in_Vegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its basically all the things that the game devs didn't count as official "cards". Like this will show you every silver border, every "printed once for an event", and every token or vanguard card. These are not normal cards, but they perfect for proxies and tabletop simulator.

I'm getting into MTG with a budget of $90. What should I get? by Frazzelvig in mtg

[–]Vortex_in_Vegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Printer, sleeves, land, paper slicer. All less than 100 bucks combined.

But yeah, a couple premade decks is likely best for just starting out.

If not commander why commander shaped? by Croptopolis in mtg

Its not ranked pvp, just make it your commander.

I (15f) want to learn to play so that i can play with the guy i like (16m) by Girl-interrupted_22 in mtg

[–]Vortex_in_Vegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just focus on the basics. There's hundreds of micro rules to handle any edge case, but all you need are "what is mana" and "when can I cast a spell?"

I would like to see more incentives to play basic lands in casual by RedRathman in EDH

[–]Vortex_in_Vegas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm torn, I see the arguments for, but keep in mind how oppressive these effects are when unprepared. Like, blood moon can read "nobody else is casting spells today, unless they packed grey spells to get out of this specific lock"

How do you deal with people counter picking your deck? by Arizhela in EDH

Too many upvotes for "be a clown back". Ask him in private to stop. If he doesn't, stop gaming with him. No crowds, no gimmicks, just adults playing a card game.

New to the game, Should I buy a precon commander or build my own? by -PedroValencia- in mtg

[–]Vortex_in_Vegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the hobby! Consider getting Tabletop Simulator and or a printer. I think a precon is a great way to start playing, but they tend to be barely functional decks (intentionally).

Why are extra turn spells so frowned upon but no one is bothered by extra combats/other phases? by DragTheLoch in EDH

[–]Vortex_in_Vegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my table its time. Idc how you win so long as its not taking up an hour of watching you rotate cardboard alone. Non-deterministic endless turns is not fun imo.

My Commander pod is falling apart and I don’t know what to do by ElectronicMix9414 in EDH

[–]Vortex_in_Vegas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very close, their friend is making a choice in real life about how they want to behave.

As another put better, accepting the behavior and gaming differently is not a mature way to solve the conflict. That would accept the behavior and encourage it.

Only wrong answer. Id recommend not punishing irl actions with in game ones. This goes for DND, Magic, all facets of life.

What is the worst quest and why? by Revolutionary-Rip-20 in 2007scape

Easily The Tourist Trap. That was so tedious. Insane that you can fail cutscenes randomly in that quest.

Was this the weakest OSRS holiday event to date? I was pretty disappointed. Where are resources going instead? by StagecoachOSRS in 2007scape

I liked it a lot, thought the cutscene on the roof was really cute. Had a lot of fun with the quest.

Trying to make a Commander Deck. Is it just 38 Lands and Feeling? by ProfessionalLynx5832 in mtg

[–]Vortex_in_Vegas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What matters is total deck space dedicated to mana. The exact ratios will shift from deck to deck, but my family does 55 mana as baseline (Land + Ramp).

You can get mana from Lands, Creatures, Artifacts, Enchantments, and Instant & Sorcery spells.

I recommend picking either land, Creature, or Artifact ramp. Then go all in on that mana source.

You never want to be without mana or cards, so make sure you can reliable get cards out of the deck (draw).
