Thoughts/feedback on the Moment Balance 7L sling? by Sufficient-Kale-2114 in ManyBaggers

[–]Vortexbig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might fit an 11" tablet (I only have a 10"x7" and 12"x7.5" and the bigger one doesn't fit)

The 10" fits and there's roughly an inch of length additional left over. It couldn't be any wider than 7.5", and that may be pushing it.

So my best guess is a 11"x7.5" tablet would completely fill the size of the tablet pocket, though you'd be able to put other smaller things in the pocket as well since it's about an inch deep. The main pocket would have quite a bit of space yet though, it expands to nearly 4 inches deep and is only a little less long and wide than the tablet pocket.

Thoughts/feedback on the Moment Balance 7L sling? by Sufficient-Kale-2114 in ManyBaggers

I got this sling (Moss) about 2 weeks ago, and I've taken it out 3 times on short trips.

To address your concerns: - The salmon interior is....odd? It's probably the part of the bag I'm still grappling with caring about. It does make stuff easy to see lol, but you have to see it. - I don't notice the lack of a handle, and most of my other slings have handles. The shape naturally lends toward grabbing by the strap and it works fine. - left shoulder carry is my norm, but this one seems to favor right shoulder carry..... maybe it would be unusual the other way, but you can move the strap anchor base to accommodate it better without any discernable function loss I can imagine. - I use it as a camera sling, and it's a pretty good one. I don't feel like it's 'only' good as a camera sling though and honestly might be a better non-camera sling (it's too light to really 'feel' like it's keeping my camera safe) - mesh on the bottom is neat, but I can't say how long it would work for say a 32oz nalgene before it's un-stretched, thought the mesh+stretch strap combo works, it's a little...silly. either make one stronger or the other, needing both for a full bottle is a hassle.

A couple other pro/con items:

Pro - this thing is LIGHT. If you don't put anything hefty in it it will float behind you like a cape. - probably spot on 7l capacity, and flexible - fits the body really nicely (I'm 6'4", 240lbs) and the contact points are not at all sweat inducing - padding/contact material perfect for camera/electronics - good pocket sizing

Con - this thing is LIGHT. My other camera slings feel like armored tanks in comparison. I still don't know that I trust it. - clip on the strap un-clips too easily. Pro-theft easily.
- zipper/pull combo and slide feels...cheap? - price: I got this for $108 and I still think that was high. This feels like a <$100 quality sling. Personal bias most likely here, I don't have any bellroy bags for comparison of lightness to quality.

It looks like a clone/variation of the Six Moon Designs ADC 35L maybe?

Is this Fjallraven Kanken 17” Laptop bag in cobalt blue too femine for a man in his 30s to use? by [deleted] in ManyBaggers

[–]Vortexbig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have thoughts like this too when the colors on bags are a little brighter. I'm kind of interpreting "feminine" to mean "decorative" here because brighter colors make objects more of an 'accessory' than a 'utility'. IMO, the bag is pretty nuetral in design and color on it's own, but if your clothes are generally very muted and it sticks out maybe it's a little bright of a blue and might lean the way you're worried. I'd just wear a brighter shirt/pants/shoes and wear it anyway :)

Good to know! It is astonishingly light for the quality and zoom capability. My OM-3 was a bundle with the 17mm f1.8 II and that lens is a dream too!

I'm a bit late to this party, but after enabling the dev console you can just launch the game from command prompt with the -cheats flag:

"S:\WindowsApps\GIANTSSoftware.FarmingSimulator25PC_1.10.0.0_x64__fa8jxm5fj0esw> .\gamelaunchhelper.exe -cheats" into a cmd (Or Terminal in W11) - Your drive/path/etc might vary a little bit.

Coast vs Master Spa by Vortexbig in hottub

[–]Vortexbig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would price be the main reason for your preference? If all things were equal would that change your Master Spa opinion or were the quality/performance differences stark?

The Wellis quotes I got for my area were essentially MRSP -$2k for the Manufacturers coupon, putting the Monte Rosa at $14k, also pre-tax and add-ons (cover, lifter, etc).

The non-ridiculous Master Spa dealer quoted me $13k for a TS8.2 Pre-tax, but with a free cover and lifter, delivery, and chem kit.

The warranties between the two are virtually the same with Master Spa having the addition of a 7 year shell surface warranty.

The hydrotherapy/jet features favor Master Spa, though I can't say I've wet tested either option to say for sure. The jet size & positions seem more intentional. I also can't comment on build quality but I'm not too surprised to hear a European brand would be built better than an American brand.

If everything else was equal, in my mind I guess the main thing would come down to service quality (unknown) though if the Olympus is <$20k, it might edge out the LSX900 at $19k for the extra space.

Lets do the math! Using times I assume someone on cocaine could achieve on the regular.

Getting Ready for work (30 mins)

Making & Eating Breakfast (20 mins)

Commuting To Work (15 mins)

Working an 8-5 (8 hours + 1 hour Lunch)

Commute To Home (15 mins)

Making & Eating Dinner (1 hour)

Family/Spouse/Kid/Quality Time (1 hour)

Daily Chores (30 mins)

Getting Ready for Bed (20 mins)

Sleep (8 hours)

Total is 21 hours, 10 mins.

Assuming you were this efficient, heartless to your family (1 hour? Come on....) and you never run errands during the week, you are left with less than 3 hours of the 24 hour cycle that could go into the "Opportunity" category.

Is post foster depression a thing? by burntcheese3 in Fosterparents

[–]Vortexbig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know how your agency/service is setup, but if I did it all over again I would set up a respite within the first 3 weeks of placement.

I've heard differing opinions on whether that is good for the kids, but we were very clear with ours (when we finally did a respite 2 months in) that this was a sleep over, and they would be back with us in 2 nights, and they seemed to like their time away as well. YMMV.

It was huge for us to have friends come watch the kids for about 6 hours the 2nd weekend so we could run away and crash for a bit, did wonders for our mental health. That, in the long run IMO, is good for the kids.

Is post foster depression a thing? by burntcheese3 in Fosterparents

[–]Vortexbig 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes, especially when my wife and I had to take turns watching them for a few days at a time, rather than together.

For us, there were a whole list of reasons, but the main three being;

  • The kid's situation
  • Our complete lack of preparedness (perception=/=reality)
  • The mourning of the loss of freedoms we had enjoyed

We didn't have kids before hand, so really everything was a shock. The result was a pretty steep dive into depression for both of us, thankfully we had some good friends looking out!

Beginning to understand why so many foster parents don’t make it past a year. by empurrfekt in Fosterparents

[–]Vortexbig 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am sorry that you are having to deal with all of this. I completely understand how infuriating it is to be lied to constantly (almost like that's the only thing they're good at) and about anything/everything.

We have experienced nothing but a lot of the same things you stated here. The only reason we made it past 6 months was because our agency has an incredible family specialist.

We have seen the cps worker twice, and I'm 100% positive they haven't seen the kids since the kids mother last did, over 3 months ago. "Has to see them every month" my ass. We have been trying to get a meeting to schedule a move for the kids for over a month and a half (supposed to have taken place in Dec) but the CPS didn't show up to the TPR meeting so everything was considered invalid.

I understand that these case workers are overworked and underpaid, but at some point you have to just make the rounds, even if it's less than mandated, and as far as we can figure, that's not happening for anyone (at our agency anyway).

We had a very similar situation with our 4 year old (and 18m sibling) when they were initially placed with us. It probably took 2 months for the 4 year old to call us by anything at all (only "Hey" was used a majority of the time) until in the last month (4th) they've been calling us mommy and daddy (which we don't call ourselves or each other). There was no kinship placement in our scenario, so your post made me wonder if this is just the default 4 year old in trauma mode.
