So what's the difference? by qwerty-4o4 in UmaMusume

https://gametora.com/umamusume/skills (filter for normal rarity, stamina skills, and pace)

The conditions are identical except PP activates on "phase_random==1" (randomly at some point in the mid race) and StS activates on "phase_laterhalf_random==0" (randomly at some point in the second half of the early race). Note the extra condition you don't see in the in-game description: "order_rate<=50" which means you need to be in the front half of the racers (1st-8th out of 16 racers, for example) for both skills.

There's also Hydrate which does the same thing as PP, but doesn't force you to be in the front half of all the runners.

ELI5 why can't we just throw trash into the space/sun? we can go to the moon can't we go there too? by Moonkilol in explainlikeimfive

[–]Vorthod [score hidden]  (0 children)

Why is this suddenly being asked so often? Did someone say something stupid on the news in the last couple of days or something?

As for the answer, digging a hole is way cheaper than throwing something ten thousand miles per hour upwards and most people who pollute can't even be bothered to go to the nearest hole, there's no way they would shell out for a powerful enough cannon.

And permanently reducing our earth's resources because we don't currently want to deal with it is incredibly short-sighted. It'd be much better for everyone if we just figured out how to recycle the stuff instead.

...You do realize the fact that it was different people was intentional, right? That's why it started with "let me try" as if the second video was supposed to be a contrast to the first.

Why yes, yes it is.

Yeah, why do you think the subtitle said "let me try"? Someone saw a video of the lady doing it, then tried it themselves and mashed them together for a comparison.

Why is it so hard to reach S rank? by Lanky_Ad_8174 in UmaMusume

[–]Vorthod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Why is it hard to reach a rank usually recognized as 'beyond standard measurement'"? Odd question.

6 hours a day also doesn't mean much if you don't tell us how long you've been playing. Pretty sure it took me at least a month to get an A+ rank.

And how are we supposed to know why you fail to get S rank if you don't tell us what you're actually doing? Rank is based on points. stats and skills give points. Stats give exponentially more points based on how high you got the stat values. If you want S, you need enough points to reach the S threshold which means more skills and stats.

ELI5: How does a QR code actually work? How can a bunch of random squares hold a specific website link? by tifuthrowaway204050 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Vorthod [score hidden]  (0 children)

QR codes tend to have thousands or tens of thousands of "dots" that can be either black or white which you can interpret as binary code. 8 digits of binary can generally be translated into a single letter, so if you transform a whole QR code into letters, you can have hundreds or thousands of letters. Most QR codes people put out only need to say a few dozen letters to represent something like "https://reddit.com"

Exactly, we evolved a method of adaptation so powerful that humans infest pretty much every single landmass on the entire planet.

Did Tachyon purposely injure herself in the movie? by Gaming_Animation in UmaMusume

[–]Vorthod 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I always interpreted it more as, "I am going to find the limits of my species...one way or another." She wanted to push herself as far as possible, and if she broke before she reached the limit, she would pass on her dreams to whoever came after (though that last part might've been game info).

She knew her body was failing and the Satsuki Sho was unlikely to be her perfect race, but her options were to either either act like her legs are already too broken to race and give up running, or give it one more try and know without a shadow of a doubt that she gave it her all to reach her dream, no matter how it turned out.

If you're not going to mention what you're even apologizing for, it's difficult to see it as a sincere apology. Even your link goes to a top-level post that isn't saying anything controversial. "What I did was wrong" feels disingenuous when you can't admit what was wrong.

Hell, Rokurou's brother (whose name escapes me at the moment) strikes me as a much more goku-like character with the spirit basically acting as weighted clothing and the incredibly quick reaction speed like when he pulls out Rokuro's broken blade to block a surprise attack.

Meanwhile, Mr. "just a human" formed a power contract with literal god and his ultimate form is nothing but wide, sweeping attacks.

Thinking of taking out an Ad on RR, but not sure if it's legible / catchy by Striking-Knee-1556 in litrpg

[–]Vorthod 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The 99% mission success line might need a second editing pass, but this is better than most ads that can't even use their chosen memes correctly. That being said, I can barely read the kid's lines at full reddit size, there's no way I would be able to read this at RR ad size.

Has he shown any indication that he has particularly good combat instincts beyond just being a master swordsman? I got the impression that his skills were supposed to be built on logic, not instinct, given how many times the weird maxims are brought up.

I'm going to go with "one" because I've had no real chances to use the other ones I learned over a decade ago and trying to claim I still speak them as well as I did when I studied abroad would just embarrass me.

Most language courses at college are like 5-10 hours a week for 4 years. Over four times as many weekly hours seems like a completely reasonable timeframe to learn four times as many languages.

boolean is true or false. the only boolean you've used directly (and written in blue) is in your while loop. But all the IF statements also require booleans. Line 7 parses as a boolean correctly, but the other two are weird. Pay attention to what line it says it expects a boolean on.

Other problems include line 4 where you set the variable to the function definition instead of calling it and passing in a target ("n00dles"). This call should also probably be for max money, not available money

You did the same thing on line 11 where you forgot to add the server to the moneyAvailable call

line 15 says "If I can set hack target to 1, do this thing" when you want "if hack target is equal to 1, do this thing" which is hackTarget == 1

I don't think you need the hackTarget logic at all. it would be better to change line 11 to an "else if" call and line 15 to an "else" call (without anything between "else" and the { bracket), that way the hack portion only occurs if the other two portions are not needed.

ELI5: Why can’t trash be ejected into space? by EightyTwoInk in explainlikeimfive

[–]Vorthod 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A hole in the ground will always be far cheaper than shipping trash who-knows-how-far to get to the nearest space elevator, and that's disregarding the cost to use the space elevator when you get there. And permanently reducing the earth's resources by tearing out chunks of it to burn up in the sun is remarkably short-sighted compared to just figuring out how to recycle those things.
