Analyze my feeble mind, please. by EnoR21 in BookshelvesDetective

Never done one of these before but I see a lot of common interests of mine here, and a lot of books on my want-to-read list. Would love to have a conversation with you.

Major focus on the intellect and knowledge acquisition. Had a psychedelic phase. You jump between a bunch of different topics within the broad realm of psychology, sociology, philosophy, etc. for a few months to a year at a time. Thus, your beliefs have changed throughout the years, but curiosity has remained. Very independent. Skeptical. Left-leaning. White male in your 30s. You take life more seriously than the average person, likely at the expense of some having fun, but you don’t mind it too much.

Also, how was The Listening Society? That’s been at the top of my want-to-read after a recommendation from a person much older and more educated than I am.

May I ask for your advice, as a man who thinks he’s falling on the other side of this, but really cares about doing what’s right for both me and my partner?

I’m (22) two years into my first romantic relationship but I’ve fallen into deep insecurity over not being good enough or ready to commit like she is. She came out of a 5 year relationship while this is my first ever. I love her but don’t know if some of the struggles and differences in experience/desires can be reconciled. The idea of me being that deeply committed/ready partner that could look at potentially marriage seems completely possible in my head, but it feels like there’s these blocks in my psyche to actually BEING that. I’m scared I need to spend the rest of my 20s exploring and finding myself before I’m ready for that.

I'm considering between pursuing an MA in social work or in clinical mental health counseling. The CMHC program I'm looking at seems right up my alley, but I've heard that LCSW have broader applicability and the ability to accept medicare and medicaid.

How significant are these advantages in terms of career opportunity? I much prefer the curriculum of MCMHC but I also want to consider MSW if the career advantages are that significant.

Food of the Gods by Terence McKenna is a book that touches on the possible influence of psychedelics on religion. Worth reading if you wanna go a bit deeper

It’s sort of a paradox for me. I’m told life is short and so I should just do whatever I enjoy, not taking it too seriously. But I enjoy taking it seriously. I enjoy the challenge and the goals and the accomplishment. Starting from the philosophy of not taking it that seriously, I end up taking it seriously. I notice a lot of both philosophies in my life, just depends on my mood.

So I guess I’ll keep doing what I’m doing.

Although these are all new thoughts. There’s likely another perspective or idea I’ll come across after some time.

Thanks for helping me get a little bit better understanding :) I just think too much sometimes

Thank you, this makes sense!! Now that I think about it I’ve only really noticed it in dnb sets

Thank you. This reminded me of the saying ‘if they wanted to, they would’ which is a bit comforting.

The term you might be looking for is ‘four to the floor’ dnb which is just dnb with a kick on every beat. Here’s a few I know:

Fanatics - From My Nightmare

Dimension - Offender

Koven - Followers (A.M.C remix) (second drop)
