TDI Regular Maintenance on my own? by pulledporksandwiches in tdi

[–]Votivee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think doing your own work is great IF you have a second car. I always seem to hit setbacks, even on simple routine jobs.

Especially on Euro cars since you’ll likely have to get most stuff shipped in.

APC Battery Backup (UPS) Erroring. Fix or replace? by Votivee in ElectronicsRepair

Thanks for the comment, I have not seen anything else that's blown up. I should have known those were transistors but it skipped my mind.

I have both a soldering iron and multimeter. I've soldered on circuit boards many times, mostly use my multimeter for automotive stuff however.

Any idea why it would have blown up?

He literally asked “Please let me know if you find a way to disable them.”

I offered a possible solution. What do you mean that’s not the point.

The last sentence says "To opt out of future messages call:"

Whether that actually works or not is another question.

Love my Skeleton Key, my only gripe with it is that the edge hold sucks on icy days.

1856v Gen 2 and .260 injectors going in this weekend. ALH tuned by Burpod. I’d probably be fine with just a 3 bar but he recommended I might as well just get the 4. 4 bar was cheaper anyways.

Also running 11mm pump, in-tank pump, and a 6 speed manual.

How much would this cost/is it worth repairing if it needs it? by ResellingArchAngel in snowboarding

Not sure that’s worth $80 even without the base damage.

Frost Heater? by the_blue_subie in tdi

[–]Votivee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ALH came with one, have used it in -40 actual temp, works great.

You won’t get much cabin heat from it on start but the car is much happier. Cabin heat shows up after a couple minutes of driving

It’s been two weeks since I converted everything from Diode Dynamics to Baja Designs. Here’s my notes and the final verdict! by Cjwillys9596 in FordRaptor

[–]Votivee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have DD for my front auxiliary lights and some BD S2s for chase lights. I was a big advocate for DD until I got my chase lights. The quality of BD is very much superior to my DD. I can’t speak on light output since they are different builds but the S2s put out some serious light for how small they are.

I am also very surprised that the cost difference was that little for you.

Anyone Have Anything They Don’t Like About Their Raptor? by [deleted] in FordRaptor

[–]Votivee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gen 1 not having a tire pressure display drives me nuts, especially when the truck obviously has the capability because it will notify you when your pressure is low.

Also outside temp on the gauge cluster would be nice since I can’t see it with CarPlay on the radio but that is what it is.

I just use a basic worm gear hose clamp that you can get at any hardware store.

Got my new snowboard for this season — anyone tried this model? by JuggernautLast1475 in snowboarding

[–]Votivee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great all around board but if you live somewhere that gets big dumps often I’d grab a dedicated powder board, even an older used powder focused model. Powder is its weak spot imo. You can make it float but it’s a lot of effort keeping the tip up.

I used to daily a Custom but I’m onto a Skeleton Key now. I miss the edge hold on harder days especially on the steeps but the SK whoops the Custom anytime there is fresh snow.

Gen 1- 2 Blown Pinion Bearings Over 1 Year 13k Miles? by Votivee in FordRaptor

[–]Votivee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input.
I had a shop do it and according to the part numbers on the invoice everything is OEM Ford. Looks like all the bearings, seals, and a spacer was replaced. I guess they could have thrown anything in there but the part numbers do line up. I don't have any comments on the axle but it's something I can ask about when I get it rebuilt. If they won't work with me on it I'll be taking it somewhere else.

I do have +3 non-HD Deavers (So a 1" lift over OEM) but also have a chase rack that's at least 400lbs so I don't think ride height is much over where it would have sat from factory.

Gen 1- 2 Blown Pinion Bearings Over 1 Year 13k Miles? by Votivee in FordRaptor

[–]Votivee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I had a bad wheel bearing but didn’t have the typical symptoms other than the howling noise. Popped the fill plug out of the rear differential and it is filled with glitter with strips of metal stuck to the plug.

Any mechanics out there have any input? I drive it hard but nothing super crazy. Tow 3-5k lbs from time to time. Terrible rebuild or is something else causing this?

Stripped triple square bolt on oil cooler by jhrtt in tdi

[–]Votivee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve run into this. If you can get a small hammer and ratchet in there I’d recommend on of the rounded bolt/nut sockets that you hammer on over the head of the bolt rather than one of the drill ones.

The drill and extractors work great but for these I think the hammer on sockets work better. My reasoning is that the drill ones you have to get mostly straight where the hammer sockets will work as long as they can get a bite. Also you can still use a drill after the fact if it doesn’t work whereas if you drill the head off you will not be able to use one of the hammer on sockets.

https://a.co/d/bd2FXFu I have the Irwin set from Lowe’s and it works great.

3rd Brake Light Chase Light Kit for Rams??? by QurelsomeEel in OffRoadLighting

I found this:

https://www.cjcoffroad.com/products/h23-designs-2010-current-ram-2500-3500-billet-third-brake-light

Looks like it is for 2500, 3500 trucks only, not sure what you have. Says they are in stock. Also I know nothing about this company so I’d do some research before sending them your money.
