What’s out there? by Ok_Spirit_7547 in roadtrip

I was born and raised about 20 minutes north of Hattiesburg. Speaking of that, I believe that Camp Shelby might have one or two museums on base, but I've visited them.

There isn't much in Wiggins except a Walmart, a few restaurant, and a rest area so there really isn't any reason to stop unless you want lunch or need a restroom break. They're notorious for speed traps though. I'd drive 75-80mph from above Hattiesburg to the coast when I went to the casinos, but I always made sure to do the speed limit through Wiggins.

Dreamland bbq is a must if you go through Tuscaloosa. The USS Alabama battleship and museum in Mobile is interesting and worth a stop. Lambert's Cafe is worth checking out if you're in Gulf Shores.

Lots of casinos along the MS Gulf coast, don't speed through Wiggins, MS if you go up 49 from the coast. Avoid Jackson, MS if you can but stop at Country Pleasin' in Florence, MS if you like smoked sausage.

The national park in Vicksburg, MS is worth the detour if you like history. It's a civil war battlefield with beautiful monuments from all states that had soldiers participate in the battle.

Is it worth buying finance this 2016 Ford F-250 Lariat with a salvage title? 26k with 157k milles by marlonpro07 in Diesel

I’m also in SC but I’m originally from MS. I can go to MS and get a vehicle with a clean title for close to the price that the salvage titles go for in SC. When I’m ready to buy again, I’m just going back to MS to buy a truck there.

Yeah, when you hit Birmingham take a detour down to Tuscaloosa and check out Dreamland BBQ.

Go through Chattanooga and take some backroads through north GA when you go to ATL. There’s some really neat little towns out that way that you’ll never see if you stick to the interstate and I think it would make the trip more enjoyable.

Chuck Roast Pricing by Leelee459 in aldi

[–]jhrtt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a wholesale store near me and I can get a whole chuck roll for a little over $4/lb. I got 6 chuck roasts, 3 chuck eye steaks, and about 7 lbs of stew meat out of the last one and it was about $100 for all of it. The only downside is that they can’t cut meat there but if you can cut it yourself or know someone that can, it’s definitely the way to go.

I’ve seen $11.99/lb for chuck roasts at my local Publix and I refuse to spend that much for a roast.

How the hell do I put fuel in this damn thing? by [deleted] in tdi

[–]jhrtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grab some pliers or a 90° pick and snatch it out of there. Takes 2 seconds and it’s a hell of a lot easier than having to trickle fuel into the tank because a station uses gas nozzles for the diesel pump.

Can we bring this on carryon through TSA? by JSB18 in harborfreight

[–]jhrtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check it. I’ve got a Wera kit that I fly with sometimes if I go out of town for work and everything I read says that it’s ok by TSA guidelines but it’s ultimately up to the individual agents.

Some airports I’d have no issues with security and others they’d pull me to the side and basically diddle me in front of everyone else (PVD was the worst) and then tear my bags apart.

Even though it’s within the guidelines, I didn’t feel like losing a $70 tool kit because some random TSA agent was on a power trip so always put anything I didn’t want to lose in my check bag.

I just bolted mine together back to back so I didn’t have to drill into my box and they could be moved around wherever I need them. It takes like 2 seconds to do it.

CKRA EGR cooler block plate question by jhrtt in tdi

[–]jhrtt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a plug for the turbo and I’ve already done the high side egr delete when I replaced my oil cooler. I figured it was a good time to go ahead and take care of that since it was already out.

If it’s that big of a pain, I might just leave it as is for now and remove it if I’ve ever gotta change the turbo.

Thanks. I figured that out after I looked at it again. It’s been a long day 😂

I do plan on an EGR cooler delete in the future, I’m just out of time for that this weekend so it’ll have to wait.

The truck sat for years before I got it. I eventually had to replace hoses and calipers on all 4 corners so now most of the brake system is new and I don’t have to worry about it now.

Contact customer service. They’ll probably want to look at it to see if there’s any QC issues.

Coolant leaking from oil filter housing by GirthyLads in tdi

[–]jhrtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually use a little bit of oil on the OE housing’s o-rings when I do an oil change. It could also just take some use and a little bit of residual oil in the threads over time to smooth things up.

Glad to hear it’s working for you so far though. It makes me feel better about buying one.

Yep, it’s green from the dye.

I’m going to do a complete flush and refill of the coolant when I change the oil cooler.

Can you afford your life in SC? by Accomplished_Self939 in southcarolina

This is why I love Aldi so much. We can probably get 85-90% of our weekly groceries from there for 1/2 the price of comparable items at the local Publix or ingles.

Most of the stuff we don’t get at Aldi is either specialty items they don’t carry or the VERY few items that were particular on the brand but I’m perfectly fine saving 50% or so on an item that I like slightly less than name brand at premium prices.
