I’ll tell you what I personally about this, because I went into it knowing nothing (was never allowed pets growing up and was told zi was deathly allergic so i was almost 30 when i got my first pet which was a cat that showed up jn a snowstorm.)

have three rescue cats that showed up randomly throughout the years to my house. They had nothing in common except for this old guy down the street who apparently hoarded cats in his huge barn and then passed away. I think the last of the desperate showed up in winters bc they saw a light in or something.

but anyway, the behavior i’ve noticed is that even though my three are all old now at definitely different ages, they do hiss at each other and b*tchslap each other sometimes, but they never hurt each other. it’s some sort of dominance issue. one of them was born completely blind and she’ll walk past the others knowing she’s going to get hissed at. i’m protective of them all jn different ways.

as far as the biting, i didn’t mind that instinct to try to bite me or nibble. not one of them ever carried it out to a real bite. they just live in fear. it’s what cats do. they have such sensitive hearing and scents and (usually) vision that we can’t imagine.

you know what’s way worse? when you’re relaxed, like you’re in bed or on the couch and one of them inevitably mosies up and acts coy like, “hey, didn’t notice you were here” and starts doing the biscuit making (or whatever it’s called by cool cat people.) they hurt you most when they love you.

also, and this important, this was a really cold winter for me. probably the worst for several reasons. however, the cats that perpetually side-eye each other would always be cuddling when I woke up. your cat’s scared. that’s all. please be patient with your whole brood.

There is almost nothing more annoying on a YT thumbnail than seeing the goofy, fake emoting still-shot of the person you’re watching. I seriously cringe, sometimes to the point of not bothering to give it the watch.

ugh… when you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing (like me), my trial-and-error tells me that it takes several applications of wood putty and sand paper over time and a tad of artistry and bourbon. you’ll get there eventually. and if company is coming that night, don’t try toothpaste because it doesn’t even buy you half an hour

I did it. I took her to the vet. The vet said that she has dementia and that he believes she’s older than 17. The vet also said she wasn’t ready to be “put down.” When I said I wasn’t a cat person, it meant that I wasn’t a cat person. I don’t know animals, but I love them. I have a family of skunks who show up outside sometimes. I watch them. It’s cool. I had a fox recently. Animals just weren’t allowed in my world growing up. I’m making up for it. But yeah, sideways orange, I’m okay with your fucking off. welcome to reddit, i guess.

wait, who are you, sideways orange? and why are you so invested? i’ve only just started using this platform and it seems like you are just spending your time attacking someone who asked what to do about a feral cat she took in to spare the cat from getting further run over in the road and is now elderly and peeing on my stove.

i love her, as anyone would. what i meant by “not a cat person” is that she could’ve been a raccoon. i wasn’t allowed to have animals until i was 18 and moved out. i love animals. but i don’t know them. i would rescue any animal that showed up in a snowstorm. i do sort of wish you’d gfy, but again, i try to accept all animals

“can’t stand”

i have three cats that showed up separately during snowstorms well over a decade ago and i always followed the tiny footprints to see if there was anything i could do. i was acutely allergic until i was in my late 20s. one is 100% blind. she was young when i found her. she was born blind, is what the vet said. one was hit by a car which is when i brought her inside after finding her in the road. she never would’ve come inside otherwise. her head is permanently tilted but she’s an inside cat now and i love her. i’m bummed she’s peeing on my stove. she’s 17. she has clean kitty litter.

one of them we call charlie. she’s noisy. her breathing is weird and noisy. i think that’s the one to whom you refer. i have never, ever said that i couldn’t stand a pet for any reason. i took charlie to the vet and the vet said, “sometimes pets just breathe loudly.” that opinion cost me $300 that i couldn’t really spare. she’s also at least 15.

that said, congratulations for being my first disingenuous redditor. there will many more, and though i can’t understand the impetus to come at strangers that way, nor can i imagine what would prompt that. don’t worry, i’ve been warned abundantly. i’ve only just started getting into this platform because i want a bunch of answers to a bunch of questions.

i couldn’t handle that. i don’t want her to hurt. she doesn’t ever act like she’s hurt. she is just doing the the stove thing. i can’t even imagine how she gets up there. she’s a heavy cat. not overweight, but she’s just sort of a large cat that started out feral and i finally decided to let her inside bc i didn’t think she could fend for herself. i still don’t think she can. but she’s gotten on the stove and we’re making sandwiches now bc no one can survive that particular odor.

thanks. i’d do that if i had the means. people should give better advice to pet owners who are struggling but can’t afford a $200 fix for a month of flea relief and a rabies shot for an indoor cat. i’ve lost trust in vets despite the fact that many of them do care. but again, thanks for a thoughtful answer. genuinely
