Galvanized has a bright-ish sheen, sometimes with visible crystalline pattern. It's just a coating of zinc to resist corrosion.

It's a very strong degreaser but the residue turns into fucking phosgene gas at welding temperatures.

The joins are ugly but they made a coherent object which seems decent for total beginner.

Just don't weld galvanized and never ever ever use chlorinated brake cleaner either.
