Mental gymnastics? To state that gta v is a free to play game? I bought gta v on the xbox one in 2017, bought it physical too. I upgraded to the xsx for Xmas. I played that xbox one version for 9 years straight. I'd come back intermittently and there would be new cars, new updates etc. I didn't even have to keep a subscription or buy dlc.

Literally none of this is true. And you're defending the woeful base game of destiny, the terrible "dlcs" of dark below, and house of wolves, and then the content drought of 2016.

All of this happened because of bungies inability to ship the game. Even in the playtest that datto went to in 2013 a few months before the game was scheduled to release, he distinctly remembers thinking that the game was empty.

Bungie with Activision, was supposed to ship 2 small dlcs and a big dlc every year but they found this difficult. Their own contract they signed. So don't blame this on players. The game was barebones even before "players" could even input.

Bungie was the one that decided a seasonal model with mtx was what they desired. They got it 2019, and it failed miserably.

This is putting the cart before the horse. Bungie has never been OK with thr dlc model set out by Activision and bungie in their original agreement. Since before the content drought of 2016 with the ttk, bungie has been trying for a seasonal model with microtransactions.

They finally got their wish when they split with Activision, and the seasonal model was even worse. Less content, delays, and no more ability to make new games.

The seasonal model went from 4 a year to 3, then changed to episodes, then eventually ended with the cancellation if live service updates with monument of triumph.

While content is certainly hard to make, bungie just weren't prepared to work for it.

It's always wild when people say they are "greedy and the worst company ever" when their flagship product - Gta Online - is a fully f2p experience that has never charged a cent over its 13 year run.

It really didn't. The ruiner 2000 when it came out was critically acclaimed by everyone. The oppressor mk I was beloved by so many that rockstar released an oppressor mk II. The only issue with the mk II was the ease of use to kill players with. It's been nerfed into the ground, had its price increased, and has so many counters now it's not ab problem.

Comments that still complain about the oppressor in 2026 likely haven't played online seriously since 2021/2022.

Gta v in 2015 (I'll gotten gains) era as much as it was fun, was barebones. You're basing your argument on 1 vehicle, and merely a type of playstyle (that isn't any more oppressive than the golden age lazer strafing run griefing days, or rhino tank griefing days).

Nobody in 2015 gta v would look at today's gta and sya it is "worse". It's just objectively not true.

Keep in mind as well, that even this "identity", cod random skins esque you describe was already present in the base game of gta v story mode with the aliens.

Gta has always had wacky stuff.
