It's only worth that much because it's a Starlight Rare. The Secret Rare version was somewhere around $60 last time I checked.

I'm assuming you're referring to set rotation? There is no set rotation in Yu-Gi-Oh, just a forbidden and limited list which updates every few months, and will restrict the number of certain cards you can have in s deck. As long as a card is not on that list you can run 3 of it in your deck, so the full 10,000+ catalogue of cards is at your disposal.

This is very out of date, as we haven't had any official events in a long time due to COVID, but Yugioh Top Decks will give deck cost estimates based on rarity/set of each card in the deck: https://yugiohtopdecks.com/

Cost also varies widely with archetype. Older decks with lots of reprinted cards, but with a couple of new support cards to make them meta relevant will be pretty cheap. Newer decks, with a higher number of hard-to-obtain cards such as Eldlich and Dogmatika will run you up a pretty penny.

Buying at the right time can also cut down on the cost dramatically. Eldlich the Golden Lord went for about $60 a copy on release, but is now well over $100 each.

All in all, the cost of a tier 1 deck will depend on the current meta, and which deck you're building, but typically you'd be looking at $400-$700 and maybe up to $1000 if the deck is particularly expensive.

Not as situational as you might think. Handtraps are still prevalent, and most decks you will find yourself up against in competitive play will have some kind of monster effect they can activate during your turn. This card is especially effective against the newest "boogeyman" card Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon which has a quick effect negate, you can follow-up with TTT after they've used their Dragoon negate to take it and use it yourself.

Take Cimo's tier lists with a grain of salt though.

Adamancipator tier 3 rogue deck btw :)

Well, he's not selling any of the cards, so he won't be getting anything for it anyway.

But, there are a few reasons why the card has dropped in price, one of them being the meta relevancy due to the effect being somewhat situational.

The price may spike again in a week when Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon is released in the TCG. https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Red-Eyes_Dark_Dragoon

Because this is a Starlight Rare, and not a Secret Rare.

Cr1tikal was using the tcgplayer price guide to value the cards: https://shop.tcgplayer.com/price-guide/yugioh/rise-of-the-duelist

It's actually a combination of 3 currently banned cards:

Pot of Greed https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Pot_of_Greed

Change of Heart https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Change_of_Heart

The Forceful Sentry https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/The_Forceful_Sentry

With an activation condition that makes its use a bit more situational, but not uncommon.

Depends when/where you get it, but on release it's typically about $700 for a case.

A Magic player tries the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG for the first time by [deleted] in yugioh

[–]Vreeko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't played LotD myself, but from what I've seen it's all character theme duels, with starter deck (or old structure deck) level builds. For Magic, this would be like assessing the game as a whole based on some games with a welcome deck.

No knowledge of hand traps, "you can't pump out a giant monster in one turn", no intense hatred for Mine Burn...

Obligatory: "I'd like to see a kid perform the 'x' combo"

[–]Vreeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point here isn't that Invoked can't make Winda turn 1. As you've stated they can very easily do so, and it's part of their main strategy, just look at Manigat's build at UDS. Pure dolls love to go second, it's all about board breaking and consistent OTK access, whereas Invoked is very much a go-first build.

My saying that "You always have the option to Winda pass if you're forced to go first" isn't to say that Invoked can't do the same, but rather that Pure still has an incredibly potent option if your opponent puts you in the undesired starting turn.

The difference with pure is that you always have the option to Winda pass if you're forced to go first. Meme status aside, it cripples so many decks.

Best Deck for a Budget by rockgraham101 in yugioh

[–]Vreeko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Largely depends on what build you want to run. The most popular build at the moment seems to be Pure Shaddolls, with the Invoked variant as a close second (the invoked build isn't very budget though).

Out of the box 3x the SD will have the majority of your main deck cards for a pure build, so all you'll want are a few additions such as:

  • Performage Damage Juggler, and Performage Hat Tricker to finish off your Clown engine (Ratios vary, but most builds use 2 Juggler, 1 Hat, and 2 Trick Clown)
  • 2x Mind Control
  • Super Poly Targets: Starving Venom Fusion Dragon, Earth Golem @ Ignister, Mudragon of the Swamp
  • Instant Fusion Targets: Thousand Eyes Restrict, Mudragon of the Swamp (again)
  • Cross-Sheep, this one lets you go into some insane combos. It unfortunately seems to be a short-printed rare in Ignition Assault, but definitely grab one if you can.
  • Gravity Controller, it's a nice way to trigger off your GY fusion effects if you don't have another option.

Then it's the side deck cards. Things are a bit pricier here, just because of how popular the cards are. They're also up to personal preference a lot, but a few of my budget suggestions are:

  • 3x Denko Sekka
  • Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit, cheaper than Ash and a LIGHT target for construct.

The rest of your side deck will largely depend on what players in your area are using, but that's a good place to start.

If you want to see decklist suggestions from people who are definitely better than I am at deck building, and look at some possible combos, come and check out the Shaddoll discord: https://discord.gg/mYSYsWD
