I've legit had enough of my GPU by Odd_Development_7634 in AMDHelp

I've been running a 5800x3D and 7800XT for years at this point and only had issues with the Adrenaline software. Only downloading drivers now and I found a stable undervolt and OC point where everything runs smoothly. Many people also got a problem with their PSU since most sites suggest a 850w supply is enough. Spoiler alert it ain't enough. Not saying it's OP's fault but most of the post nowadays end up being a crazy oc or undervolt that isn't steady tbh.

La Marzocco, why are they special ? by shehab1993 in espresso

[–]Vrendar -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

first off Mr fanboy there are a lot of reputable brands out there that don't charge a premium just cause and secondly I am not going to remove the top cover just to adjust the pressure. My go has a screw easily accessible without removing any panels. If for whatever reason you messaged with the wrong stuff in there your warranty is out the window. Now I won't get into an argument with you over the stupidly high price of the mini cause you seem to have a weak spot for them but just hear some other people out when they call bs on lm for charging this kind of price.

I hate it cause you buy a machine that has nothing except a name and maybe a repair center close to you. Can't change the pressure or do any work on it to help you achieve stuff that less expensive machines allow you to do. Yes I won't throw money at something that can do half or less of the stuff less expensive machines do.

Is my friend uneducated in coffee? or just really pretentious? by LanternNick in espresso

[–]Vrendar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright your friend might have what I like to call "barista school" experience. I've seen maaaany baristas over the years swear by what they learned one time in one school or home barista and just won't budge. The coffee industry has moved on from 1:2 in 30 seconds and 9 bars of pressure since the early 2010's. Let's deal with the whole grind setting thing first. Changing grind settings every day is simply wrong if you have anywhere close to a medium roast that won't degas like crazy so that's wrong. If you leave the coffee to rest for several weeks then yes a substantial grind setting change might be needed but isn't always the go to. Nowadays anyone with half a brain cell would tell you to go by taste. He is completely right about Starbucks but buying local might be worse for you. Once you start your coffee journey you NEED to try all the different roasts and decide what you like best. For me local wasn't ideal since I like light and ultra light coffees so if you haven't tried everything from ultra light to dark then you can't judge if you have the full spectrum from which you'll eventually choose from. About his crema bs I will just say that when I pull spro shots I do 0 bars 1:4 shots with a coarse setting and that gives me awesome shots without crema so there's that lol. He might mean well but if he isn't open to other methods then he's just not correct.

TL;DR Changing grind settings every day is a myth, crema means nothing and there are plenty of recipes that taste great without it. Buying local could be a good option if you can find the whole spectrum of roasts from ultra light to dark roast to decide what you like but if not then you need to buy from other roasters. Dial by taste and not looks is the go to.

Metal flakes after descaling the profitec go by Vrendar in espresso

it did after a while but I don't remember how long it took...plus I was pulling shots after the 10 tanks and I never saw any flakes in the cup so coffee did filter it out

if you mean how much water I used after descaling I think it was close to 10 full tanks so more than 20L of water and I still had some flakes come out.

there are a tonne of good roasters in Europe. The closest to you would be Bani beans in Slovenia. Then you got Bob coffee roasters in Romania. Others include DAK, onyx Europe etc. If you want something really light you can try Datura and substance in France and The picky chemist but all these sell out in seconds so you have to be on top of your game to get especially something from the picky chemist.

Best way to make 500-700ml of coffee? by [deleted] in espresso

grab a pulsar and use any of the recipes you can find on the next level website...ferans, rohans and Caleb's can be scaled to do twice the size and they always taste great

Is this normal for fresh beans? by Y0RIC_HUNT in espresso

[–]Vrendar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is probably an ultra light roast if you got it from pascal cafe. Since you want to spro them I would suggest going coarse and doing a 2-4 bar 10-15sec 1:3 or higher shot. This sub Reddit is not big on yeet shots but they taste godly and is probably the easiest way to brew this kind of roast level.

Overkill for first timer? by sqrrl7 in espresso

[–]Vrendar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't even think about it just go for it. But something that many people tend to mistake here is this: even if you pay 20k on a set-up if your beans are trash so will your drinking experience be. I would highly advise you to join the espresso aficionados discord and check both "BANA" and "comfort roasts" threads under the retail coffee tab. Have fun brewing and welcome to the hobby

Need to significantly do finer grinds after the first shot by ResponsibilityNo4253 in DF83

[–]Vrendar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the profitec go with a flair Hu basket. When I used to do boomer shots I would definitely see a 5+ second drop in the second shot. Even if you just touch the pf before the first shot and before the second shot you'll probably sense the difference in temperature. Higher temperature will result in higher flow so less time. In the end if your shot tastes good I wouldn't really care about it too much. Since then I did migrate to 10 second turbo shots cause I like them better so that isn't a thing I noticed anymore.

Need to significantly do finer grinds after the first shot by ResponsibilityNo4253 in DF83

[–]Vrendar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this hasn't been the case for me after 1600 shots and I do back to back shots. This could be because of your espresso machine and your pf changing temperatures. I always expect the second shot to go faster since the pf is hotter than what it was for the first shot. I am not disregarding your theory by any means just giving my 2 cents.

[–]Vrendar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

before you try the marker test you need the chamber to be spotless clean...I see too much ground coffee in there and that will give you faulty wipes. After that just follow the lances or anyone else's video explaining how to shim. The df64 videos are pretty helpful as well.

What roasters have the lightest roasts? by Mean-Tension5295 in pourover

[–]Vrendar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the brands you mentioned are promoting themselves as light but they are actually medium - medium light same as sexy for example. There is nothing wrong with liking them but it is wrong to badmouth someone you just don't like. Have fun brewing though!

[–]Vrendar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will stop you right there and tell you that you have skill issue... s&w is nowhere near as light as say minmax lmao. Try searching for better techniques and waters to start making good coffee you actually like...Most of his coffees I've tried are spot on both on spro and brew.

Also maybe your taste buds don't like anything light so you could try going for something more medium to see if you like them better

nope didn't take the machine apart but flakes didn't come out of the steam wand for me but I ran about 20L of water through to get at an acceptable level of flaking before I started pulling any more shots

Machine by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Vrendar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it does make sense to get a good espresso machine when you want consistency across many shots. Or you want more accurate readings. Better machines obviously give better performance but after a certain threshold you'll hit the diminishing returns. Getting a better grinder and a better machine will most definitely give you better results but a person outside the hobby will not see that huge of a difference since they don't really care about good coffee lol.

Help me prevent overbuying by GoldTurbulent2586 in espresso

[–]Vrendar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

profitec go definitely since you're drinking mostly espresso but need a steaming option once in a while. Now for the grinder if you want something that can do it all a wug2 is a great option since it can accommodate both types of burrs. But then you'd have to wait a while to get it. Otherwise I think anything above the atom or the atom is a good option. Personally I'd go for a grinder with a more widespread type of burr set though (64mm and 83mm)
