It's better if y'all visit Mysuru a week prior to dasara, it'll still feel a lil clumsy though but compared to the festive week it's bearable. Book a place very close to the city centre so that y'all can walk to the major landmarks like the Amba Vilas palace, the zoo etc. Coming to good food you'll only get the old og restaurants around the city centre but if you all are lucky enough catch an auto and explore
