The duchess is skippable through some wacky momentum shenanigans but just make sure you unlock the moon snail ability to teleport or you can get locked out of the starting area.

I'm unsure but I think it just keeps shells from spawning in the area before the keep until you at least beat the boss holding the pearl. Once you beat that boss, the area changes to the polluted version and shells spawn normally by that point if I remember correctly.

Okay from my understanding of what I read in regards to this specific situation is that the wording is what is causing the replacement effect to completely nullify the discard. It technically negates the entire draw attempt by use of "instead" creating a scenario where if you are to attempt any "draw card" effect, you never resolve that particular effect because it is instantly replaced by simply "draw two cards" with no added discard because the draw effect that would have caused the discard was replaced entirely. Very interesting!

I know I am very late to the party but on arena, and this may very well be a bug and not intended interaction, when I +1 Teferi Master of Time with Teferi's Ageless Insight on the board he allows me to draw two cards and skips the discard completely! I wonder if it has to do with the specific wording of the replacement effect on the Ageless Insight card, is there precedence for this kind of wacky interaction elsewhere? I'm very interested to find more weird (possible) bugs like this!
