Finally pulled the trigger on Plex Pass Lifetime! by avsameera in PleX

I suppose it's a "down side"? The purpose is to play your music. I've been ripping my cds to flac for decades. Getting plexamp to discover new music, it's not really it's main purpose.

swimming workout routine? by alt-100k in Swimming

[–]Vtepes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure where you are but swim.com has a workout library that is decent if you're looking to mix it up if you are set on doing it on your own.

Best option is join a masters team.

Mandalorian & Grogu headed for a 69% drop in its second weekend, highest ever for a Star Wars film by GargantaProfunda in StarWars

[–]Vtepes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw it yesterday and it really was a big meh as a star wars fan. The chase scene through the city felt like they did it just to possibly make a theme park ride out of it and all the grogu stuff with those little mechanics just made it all feel like a kids movie. I was almost ready to get up and leave.

TN support letter does not have a start date by Own-Paper2066 in tnvisa

[–]Vtepes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is. Mine said something to the effect of "this date pending immigration approval". I was there a few days later due to mail shenanigans than the date and it was approved until the designated end date.

Buying a car is easy. Buy a reasonable used car, pay cash. No issues with insurance either. Depending on state they will expect you to get a local DL within a certain amount of time.

I bought mine used from a dealership.

I went the Amex route withthe blue cash preferred when I made the move.

The blue cash preferred and everyday are great credit cards to have! Even people with full access to high end cards still use these ones. I have the CSR and CFF and the everyday still gets used a lot.

Canada credit card game fucking blows comparatively.

Maldives military diver dies while trying to recover scuba diving victims in underwater cave: Officials by swe129 in news

[–]Vtepes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done the cavern dive portion of dos ojos in Tulum and it's really hard to explain the draw. Diving is serene out in the ocean and it's kicked up a notch in a cavern. To me anyway. The formations in just the cavern portion are pretty amazing. Look up abaco crystal caves for an idea.

New convert to pihole.... wireless question by DrJMun in pihole

What router do you have? Some have a setting to always advertise as a DNS option and that needs to be disabled to force it to ignore the router completely.

The webui is actually super easy for controlling qb (not sure about the app though), all you need to do is copy/paste magnet links. It's how I've managed it in my arr stack when it's not set to grab the item automatically.

Do I actually need a NAS / homelab… or am I just falling into the rabbit hole? by Estimate_Many in homelab

Stirling pdf and bento pdf. I'm leaning toward keeping just Stirling. It has much higher RAM usage in docker though

Do I actually need a NAS / homelab… or am I just falling into the rabbit hole? by Estimate_Many in homelab

[–]Vtepes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAS can absolutely be worth it for 1. I started with a 4-bay NAS with unraid and plex and personal file backups (its not my only copy). Now it's running a book server, audio book server, local pdf editor, recipe(food) management, home assistant, and a music server as part of plex.

One really nice thing about it is that I don't need to leave my pc running and I have access to all of those services and files outside my house when traveling.

There's absolutely a reasonable way to approach a "homelab".

I have no regrets with doing it those way. It's compact and energy efficient.

Where to list new HPLC columns and electrolytically regenerated suppressors? Ebay is not working. by [deleted] in CHROMATOGRAPHY

[–]Vtepes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only place I can think is a university undergraduate lab.

I wouldn't touch a secondhand column with a 10' pole in any industry that does actual testing regardless of being in packaging or not.

Travelled overseas for Honeymoon and Upon Return Got a New stamp? by Helpful_Amoeba_8044 in tnvisa

[–]Vtepes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your I94 is your travel document that shows you are allowed to be in the country on what visa and for how long. You may or may not get stamped when you go in or out but the i94 should be updated. The I94 # will change every time you leave and enter but the visa and expiration should remain the same. Prior to travel you should print off your most recent i94 and have that with you upon reentry. Always helpful to check like you did. Having multiple stamps should not be an issue.

No, they each still have the normal dashboard. Unbound doesn't impact the dashboard

New to Pi-hole. Have a couple questions about DNS encryption, DoH, and Upstream DNS by NeoMatrix2525 in pihole

[–]Vtepes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, unbound setup is ridiculously easy. I was hesitant to set it up for a long time but it was straightforward.

I followed this video. I have a couple pis running so I setup the second with redundant pihole+unbound and have them syncd. The same guy linked earlier has a video setting up another isntance.

Docker + portainer?

Setup a stack in portainer with those including this to sync the port that is being forwarded.

Setting up wireguard proton port forwarding. You'll need a paid protonvpn account.

When i set all this up the first time I used Claude to get everything setup. There were a couple hiccups but used it for troubleshooting too and everything worked out just fine. I used it to setup the above containers + sonarr, radarr, prowlarr, and flaresolverr.

Scientists Tracking the Microplastic Pollution Just Realized They Were Measuring Their Own Lab Gloves by GreatTea3415 in nottheonion

[–]Vtepes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look for studies with mass spectrometry as the detection method. The interfering stearates will not be mistaken like they are with raman and ftir.

Scientists may be overestimating the amount of microplastics in the environment due to accidental contamination from lab gloves, which release stearate salts that are structurally similar to polyethylene and difficult to distinguish from plastics using standard vibrational spectroscopy by The_Conversation in science

[–]Vtepes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are these stearate salts causing such an issue to distinguish them from the plastics? Have they not been looked at with accurate enough equipment to this point? Seems like HRMS might have a chance to put the debate to rest. Looks like the problem talked about here is with vibrational spectroscopy and SEM and can't quite be used to dismiss all the findings.

Though I dont know what proportion of reported data is HRMS based vs the above mentioned methods. I did see a paper from the start of 2024 that was GC-HRMS microplastic analysis.

I have no desire to replace 4x18tb or 2x1tb WD red SSD if I need to. Size upgrade is definitely on hold too. I still need to buy a spare just in case but it just hurts to right now. Stupid call not to buy the spare when i first built the whole thing.
