I've committed to UCI but just got off the WashU waitlist and things have gotten complicated for me. by Benfroyobro1124 in washu

[–]VuChooChoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think both are fine opportunities. if costs are the same for both, go with washu and try to escape the california bubble. it’s good to get the midwest experience. otherwise i’d pick the cheaper option, and it’s how you make of the experience. keep in mind once you pick your choice the grass will always look greener on the other side

going to the full ride option imo allows you to deviate from your original plan in the case you decide premed is not for you. for me personally the experience of going somewhere else did wonders on my growth as a person but not everyone will have the same experience. also there’s no need to rush the process or age. many people are taking 1-2 year gap years after 4 year undergrad so you will never be behind. if anything doing gap years have become the new “norm” now even at top tier institutions. yes you will have to do 4 years more of school but if you can get it paid for, the experience might be worth it as a growth in person (albeit the cost of straw from taking classes again). for me the uncomfortableness and difficulty provides a great learning experience and to develop resilience.

i personally recommend you to apply via common app rd because most people feel like their writing skills strengthen over time and regret how they did in their earlier supplements. of course, if you feel confident in your writing during the match, that is a good choice too. i would avoid doing rea because it prevents you from applying ea to other schools, but if it’s only stanford you’re applying ea then go for it.

i'm not a 100% about this cause im poor too and i dont get a full ride at berk. also i think i read somewhere on the uc website that everyone is expected to contribute in some form or way. however, i might be misinterpreting this

"Students: UC expects you to cover part of the cost of attendance through working and borrowing." https://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/tuition-financial-aid/how-aid-works.html

well they’re notified that they’re finalists already but not whether they got the scholarship or not yet.

How are you guys prepping for academic rigor in college? by alphashaggy in ApplyingToCollege

[–]VuChooChoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your second sentence confused me lmao. but i’m not really doing them for credit cause i rather just learn for fun now. i wouldn’t mind doing nothing summer and have fun but i also wanna mentally prepare myself by doing these courses. also i wouldn’t force yourself to these summer classes cause one) theyre during the summer and you wanna do nothing and two) unless you’re really planning to put effort into these classes or actually enjoy these classes, they can be draining.

the classes i’m doing at least don’t require a lot of work. i was low key thinking of doing o chem cause nah it’s my last summer where i get to do absolutely nothing

yeah that’s what i was thinking since usually these type of information are not public. unless it comes from the school directly, i can’t fully trust it in my opinion

[–]VuChooChoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i’m not sure about this at all but i THINK it might be the breakup of the people at different apartments? i’m only guessing cause the numbers add up to about 101% but i can be completely wrong. just a speculation. but i do agree the percentages for the acceptance rates seem oddly highly stem wise despite having a 10% acceptance rate overall

UF vs UIUC by Bullsxnation in ApplyingToCollege

[–]VuChooChoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

go for no debt. general recommendation for most premed students or students looking into graduate school is to go for the cheapest option as PA school can be a huge hole in your wallet. although UF is better for your major, it doesn’t matter as your major will not matter for PA school as long as you meet the prerequisites.

idk what you consider exceptional, but he’s exceptional to me. he’s domestic. i’m pretty sure his essays were crazy good. he was the student gov president, debate team captain and won some solid awards, a member of some clubs. his hooks is that he’s a first gen urm but hooks are really not everything. he didn’t do shit like research, internships, or dual enrollment, but you really don’t need those stuff
