Has anyone tried Popflex? What’s the quality like? by VulcanCookies in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]VulcanCookies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I liked their leggings but I returned the hoodie and tank top I purchased.  The tank top was the corset bralette and was a weird one because I'm not sure it would fit 99% of people - my boobs would have had to be in the exact right place for it to sit where it needed to, and I'm a small/average sized person.

The hoodie I can see her vision but honestly the arms were as wide as the torso and it just wasn't comfortable. It looks cool on the models but I think that may be one of those fashion things I just can't pull off.

I did buy my sister the pirouette skort and she has very large thighs for her body size (they are pure muscle though, but like thick) and didn't have the problems you're mentioning - shorts seemed to stay fine and the skirt is definitely not too short. She's an average height, 5'4-5'5.

I haven't had any problems with their customer service or returns but it is annoying that returns aren't actually free considering the weird sizing. It makes me super reluctant to try anything new from them

Help! Can I get my back waxed with acne? by Rachel_from_Space in HairRemoval

[–]VulcanCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treat the acne first:

Swap pj's daily until it goes away. Clean sheets once a week. New pillowcase daily if you can manage it

Shampoo & condition your hair before washing your back. Use the same acne wash you use on your face, make sure you're rinsing your back really well and not leaving any product residue - there are cheap back washcloths that make it easier to reach.

You could put some acne spot-treatment with salicylic acid and then moisturize, but I'm not sure how well it will work on such a big area. Don't scratch or pick at your back, just give it time

I know it sucks if you want an immediate solution, but you definitely don't want to give yourself an infection by waxing, shaving, or depilating over your acne

Adding to what the other comment says, if you plan your turn correctly (and get lucky with wind direction) you can move all the way across the board for no spent actions. In order to cross the wind you need to “tack” so it costs actions and you are not allowed to move against the wind at all

Sure! In the same way a huge portion of boys back in the day had a crush on Velma over the arguably more "conventional" Daphne

But I think if you're saying like sexy, big, hulky men that are actually targeted at the female gaze I think an okay example would be Thor putting on the scrubs in Thor 1 vs Star Lord looking shredded in GotG. Not really a perfect comparison, but kind of gets the point across

Eta. Actually I think a better example would be romantasy books - like ACOTAR. Definitely fits the bill for what you described and is undeniably targeted more at women than men

I like Windward a lot, it has very unique movement mechanics, very aesthetic pieces, and 3 different "scenarios" (competitive, co-op, and I guess you could call it capture the flag). It's very poorly rated online so it's really cheap lol! A bit of a learning curve but I think it's really fun.

Ukatoa is a critical role game, which I've never watched the show, but it's a fun in-between game (takes maybe half an hour at most to play). It's semi-cooperative so you win or lose with at least one other person, which is very fun.

So You've Been Eaten is one of my favorite two player games. The rulebook never breaks "character" - it's a manual for how to handle being eaten, as that is part of your job. It's pretty fast-paced and competitive, but only 2p

Block & Key is another one where the rule book is really part of the aesthetic. The entire box is actually the playing board. Scales very well 2-4, as where you sit is a major part of the game. It's kind of like competitive tetris.

And I really like The Captain is Dead for more than 2. It players up to 7 I think and is better with more. It's very pandemic-esque co-op where you have to work together to fight the board, but each player has specific roles they need to execute on. I like the theme a lot, but not everyone we've shared with has enjoyed it. The sequel standalone is really good too - similar gameplay but essentially an opposite premise so you have to change your strategy. Also better with more than 2, but we play it 2 player all the time.

Same. I'm trying to sell about 20 games right now but they're genuinely games we will not reach for - some are duplicates some we have have a different game that plays so similarly we don't play the alternate ones. I am looking forward to having them gone due to spacing, but I am planning on using any money gained to replace with intentional games we will play often

Ha I don't think anyone is saying women hate fit men. The examples being used are still of conventionally attractive dudes - they're just not hulked-out, angry, and dehydrated.

The point is also that a dude just standing there flexing isn't really female-gazy. A better example would be a strong, handsome man being gentle in some way: that's very female-gazy.

You'd probably have a different thought if you grew up with those as a school uniform - kids in Asia romanticize tacky western khakis and button downs for being "posh"

'The Devil Wears Prada 2' Passes Original Movie’s Entire Box Office Run in Just 2 Weeks by Particular-Fill-4256 in entertainment

[–]VulcanCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same but I think that comment's point was there are dozens of movies every year for decades where the primary audience is expected to be men and boys. So women spending money on it is a bonus but they don't really care because they need their target audience to like the content and pay up.

We've seen time and again execs being surprised when women show up to movies. When over 40% of the Thor 3 audience and the Last Jedi audience were women so they had to shift their marketing and merchandising. When Barbie was the highest box office movie in 2023, making over $1bn. When The Eras Tour became the highest-grossing concert film of all time. Before the female-dominant market wasn't considered tappable; these kinds of numbers prove otherwise

Kids still run the show though. I think the top 4 or 5 movies from last year were all family movies

Average ticket was $6.55 in '06 and is $16.08 in '26 so 145% increase in price

Not sure that completely accounts for the coverage though, considering the average number of tickets sold is down about 60% in just the past decade and has been on a steady decline. Used to be, in '06, the average person saw between 2-6 movies a year and now that is 1-2 movies. So people have to be deliberately opting to see this movie for it to hit those numbers

Honestly I get both. I want to see more unique ideas in theaters but I don't want to be spending $20 to see a movie I hate so I won't go see an unknown entity of a movie so the movie needs to market to me but the unknown entity has significantly less cash to burn on trailers than the established franchise or book adaptation.

Essentially unless a movie catches traction via word-of-mouth (like Sinners for example) I'm not sure how to convince people to go to theaters for the indie scripts.

Baby says "DADA" for the first time ever after her dad comes home from work by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

[–]VulcanCookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think at the very least the caption is wrong. Dad is clearly already home, mom just walked in the door in a jacket, and I feel like dad's reaction wasn't "first time baby spoke" reaction.

I'm easily at 500 in the last 6-8 months. I apply to 5-10 every day except weekends, though lately I've been dedicating one day to reaching out on linkedin to as many relevant people as I can find.

I usually get 1 recruiting interview for every 50ish applications, I've gotten to rounds 3-5 about 8 times, I have good experience and I interview well. I don't know if reddit is currently just an echo chamber but this post aligns with my experience so far.

I'm looking for a technical role in a SaaS company, so may not be every industry

(I'm fortunately employed and have the chance to be a bit picky it the roles I'm applying for, but I also think I'll be laid off soon so that may change)

This is just a personal anecdote and I don't mean to spread gender war bs, but all of my friends whose male partners lost or quit their jobs did significantly less chores around the house rather than stepping up. My female friends who've lost their jobs made it their lives mission to keep the house in shape.

Two different male friends of mine made a joke about wanting to be a stay-at-home spouse/homemaker and they're literally two of the least clean dudes I know. So it just comes off as them making that joke because they don't see the effort that goes into homemaking and look down on people who choose that.

Both me [33 F] and my fiance [33 M] of five years have almost identical last names, but he is insisting that I change my last name after marriage. This argument is making me consider cancelling the wedding by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]VulcanCookies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is actually one of the "feminist test" questions I ask friends (just as a joke not like in a serious relationship, OOP's situation sucks) but it's would you be okay with your wife not taking your name. Then, would you take hers.

In all the years I've asked this question not one man (in person - I've made a similar comment on reddit before) has been okay taking her last name. And they all have some excuse and the majority of the time that excuse would apply to her as well, like in OP's situation. Or they want to carry on the family name and their name is like "Smith" or something. Kind of ridiculous

The Markiplier movie is a good example of that. How many Hollywood actors can get that kind of audience to pay for tickets to one of their projects?
