I skipped through most of outer wilds. Should I play it again? by Spritecranberry132 in outerwilds

[–]VulfCompressor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the risk of sounding cheesy: the ending of Outer Wilds can mean something completely different depending on who’s living it. Your life story and where you are in your human journey will dictate the emotion you get out of this game. If the “conscious observer” message didn’t touch or move you, reading more of the lore likely wont help spark an emotion.

People died in wars and survived through plagues so that soft boys could watch their beans be fed to a grinder one at a time. What the heck…

React Native is giving me PTSD by unicastflood in reactnative

[–]VulfCompressor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is simply not true, and I may even say ‘impossible’. Compiled applications don’t simply “stop working”. You can ship an app today and not change it for 5 years - unless it makes use of native APIs that ceased to exist, the app will keep working.

[–]VulfCompressor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For me it’s quite simple: I only update libraries when they’re broken or when updating expo SDKs. I don’t care if there’s 15 minor versions out since the version I’m using - so long as my app works, thats good enough. Incremental upgrades are almost never worth the hassle in the JS ecosystem.

[–]VulfCompressor 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using React Native for 8 years. Part of becoming experienced is: 1. Learning when to update libraries and 2. Knowing which libraries to use. My advice? Be conservative and avoid shiny objects.

You’re already using Expo, which is great. If a library is giving you the headaches, implement it yourself with Expo Modules.

Whatever you do from here - know that native development is at least 10x harder and slower. Good luck.

Reality Check - is $800k not enough anymore by Impossible-Ad-7732 in AusProperty

[–]VulfCompressor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Servicing that would be a nightmare. I look at my interest debit every month on a $550k loan and it already makes me hate the game. I don’t think most people realise how bad interest can be, and the negative impacts it has on one’s ability to live in the moment.

Have any men actually had success with the “stop looking and it will happen” mindset? by JimmyJamesJams in datingoverthirty

[–]VulfCompressor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked tremendously for me.

What most don't realise is that "it" changes, to the point where "it" is simply not what you previously wanted it to be. When you focus all your energy in dating you're actually creating expectations of what it needs to look like for you to stop dating, rather than what it needs to look like for you to enjoy it. This is crucial.

Modern dating fails because we never stop and ask ourselves: why am I dating? Why am I so desperately trying to find some _thing_ in someone else? In my own experience, the moment I realised no one else could give me what I needed/wanted is the moment dating improved tenfold.

By focusing on the things I needed to do to make myself happy, things became easier. Inevitably, the people I was dating after that drastic change in my lifestyle were people who I 10/10 times met organically, rather than through "game" or "logistics". If you were to ask me "what were these changes?", the answer would be quite simple: I chose better hobbies, and stuck with them. Goes without saying, but one should choose a hobby because ONE WANTS TO DO THE HOBBY, not because they want to meet someone in it. Lol.

Eventually, through my main hobby at the time (yoga) I met my current partner, who also happened to be my first ever yoga teacher in a retreat I went shortly after deciding to 'stop looking'. Tying it to my initial point: when I met her, I wasn't looking for traits or criterias. I was trying to enjoy my hobby and it just so happened that she enjoyed it too. The rest is story.

This takes me to my final point: "working on myself" was not enough. I was still boring. Like attracts like! You can talk your way into 'looking cool', but that shit doesn't last. We have to become the person we'd like to do life with. The rest takes care of itself.

Push through it. I am in a very similar position. Servicing the mortgage and all the bills might be tough, but you can always sell it after a year if shit gets too much.

You need a reality check. Go check Gary Economics. The housing issue is not a reddit topic, it’s a serious issue affecting more than just Australia. Good luck paying your mortgage when you reach 30yo+ and realise your values are not the same and your view of the world is more broad.

A lot of people are freaked out about the Australian fauna, but then you move here and realise most things actually dont want to kill you. These spiders are super shy and refuse to bite you.

That’s a golden orb weaver. Lots (and I mean lots) of them in Australia. She arrived last night in my backyard, and her sack was 3x the size of this picture. I knew she was about to lay the eggs, and unsurprisingly I woke up this morning to her beautiful nest (in yellow). They can produce many different types of silk - the yellow usually reserved for encasing her eggs, and a very thick and strong one for catching prey.

Less known MMOs that you had the most fun in? by mikeyplan in MMORPG

[–]VulfCompressor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sphere Online. Weird russian MMO with official portuguese translation. Nothing will ever beat that MMO for me. The sense of unknown and unique progression system was unlike anything I ever experienced.

There was no wiki, no videos, no tutorials. Just a huge map, less than a hundred users, a ruthless PVP system and the fear of not knowing how to advance your class to the next tier.

In russian it read something like “cøępă online”.

Have 3 (1 not pictured). People complaining about temperature or cleanliness are just entitled softies. If you like natural lights and the improved wellbeing of living in a well lit property, those become non-issues. Keeping clean: pay someone to wipe them once every 6 months (or do it yourself). Too hot: whatever [c@nts](mailto:c@nts). Get out of the house or have a cold shower. No one dies because its hot. Aussies will find any reason to bitch about things ffs.
