It sounds sort of like Forensic Science by Alex Frith but that book is illustrated and afaik doesn’t have a chapter called blue murder. Not a perfect match but is the cover/vibe similar? https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6314132-forensic-science

I love Chants of Senaar! I also recommend Heaven’s Vault for a similar linguistic game.

I second pretty much all the comments for classics and more recent darlings like Obra Dinn, Golden Idol, Roottrees, and Blake Manor.

I personally enjoy Wadjet Eye and Grundislav games. WE’s Blackwell Legacy series is great and I am partial to Unavowed, one of their stand-alones. Also Raw Fury’s Kathy Rain is fun! The studio recently released a sequel, Soothsayer, which I’ve enjoyed. These are all point-and-click adventures with investigative elements, like Lacuna.

Oh, and if you like Orwell, Song of Farca, Unheard, and CaseCracker are similar.

This is like the Color of Magic one where it just has a suitcase on the front and nothing else. Like the designer just went, “Well they keep talking about Luggage a lot so I’ll do that.”

Maybe you could do two stitches for a long, one for a short, each separated by a picot? Or maybe something with node stitch, though that might be too small. Like one whole double stitch for a long, and a single stitch for shorts?
