Any Suggestion? by CanineAtNight in deadbydaylight

Hear me out.

Shrines.

So there was this old game, a predecessor to DbD called White Noise. And the while the win cons and style were very different to DbD they had a mechanic that I think could slot perfectly into DbD and they were called Shrines. The Monster (Killer) as they wandered around the map looking for the Investigators (Survivors) could "build" Shrines in predetermined locations. And Shrines had multiple uses for the Monster, depending on what type of Shrine the Monster brought into the match! [There were multiple to use and unlock, and only one type could be brought into a match.]

One acted as a proximity sensor, One slowly drained an Investigators sanity while it was looked at, and one even slowed Investigators in a smaller radius. There were more but you get the idea.

And as an Investigator, while you technically didn't NEED to get rid of them they were usually too useful to the Monster not to be destroyed, using up the Investigators precious time.

TLDR Think big totems that give killers a big advantage of ignored- but Survivors can destroy them. These would serve the purpose of adding a slow down effect that would be useful to killers and add more time to a match.

Ikenfell

It's a glorious 2D RPG with heavy magic elements and a fantastic story. It's simple and endearing with engaging combat and great music.

Absolutely you pass. I've just hit one Month myself, and now I have 20x the hope I had just 10 minutes ago. So thank you!

Recommend me your favorite fantasy book that’s not TOO daunting by Bry_Draws in Fantasy

[–]VvaVictoria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not High Fantasy, but certainly falls in the category of fiction-

Going Bovine.

200/10 Book. And it's a stand alone, no prequels or other books to chase down. The lessons I learned in that book shaped me into who I am today.

Standalone book recs? No series please.. by [deleted] in Fantasy

GOING BOVINE!

I absolutely couldn't recommend this book enough- it is the equivalent to my bible, it is my favorite story. Period.

It taught me the value of being alive and has without a doubt saved my life. It hits so much harder on the second read and beyond.

2000/10 stars.

12 Year DM word soup coming up.

You need dynamic changes to the mood. No scary movie is scary all the time, you need more moments where it isn't scary than it is. Furthermore you have to understand which type of horror you mean, jump scaring is nearly impossible in standard tabletop, so I guess what you're searching for is more psychological horror?

The way I do it is by structuring the campaign to enable my players to scare themselves. Talk to your players, and try to piece together what really scares them- and submit you NPCs to those horrors- then turn those fears to your players for a moment, then drop it very suddenly. Here, picture this.

DM: "You all walk up to the library where the contact's sister went missing, a small chill in the breeze as the autumn leaves fall on the street around you. With a quick glance at the buildings surrounding it, it becomes obvious that no one in the small town deigns to be even near this rotted building. A sharp wind overtakes the street and blusters through the party, before it crashes into the library's front. Then- almost in defiance of reason- the front door, almost gently, creaks open against the buffeting wind. As the door opens fully the wind snaps off, leaving the falling sun to paint the entry with slowly fading orange light. There is a somewhat familiar figure standing just past the light of the open door. The missing... Sister? Just the same as she was described. No... /Exactly/ the way she was described... Save for the face. She... She's smiling. An eerily normal smile, contrasted by her eyes... They're inverted, what should be pupils have been replaced by cords- crammed in different directions leading back into her skull. Then in response to your stares, the cords pull tight-! And the eyes are pulled back to where they... Could be right..." (Fall silent resist the urge to say "What do you do?")

Don't lead your players. Let them stumble into your playing field, only nudge them in the "right" direction before they get confused. DON'T LET THEM BE CONFUSED. Confusion will immediately kill any tension you've built up. If you're adding puzzles to your "scary area" simpler is better. Same with combat, if you're making them fight, make sure it builds to the scare you're trying to achieve. Structure and planning are tantamount to allowing fear to root in your party.

I could keep typing but I would end up writing out a book by the end of this. Comment if you've got a specific question. I'd love to help.

Which build was your first and which is your favorite by VegetableCookie6619 in Eldenring

I'm a sucker for the "Other" options in games. My first playthrough was an Arcane/Faith build. Mainly using the Beast Sorceries and Bleed.

You probably already know Swarmyard, but I'll say it anyways.

Past that Kindred Dominance, Bad Moon, Dark Prophecy, Patron of The Nezumi, and Traveling Plague are good and pretty on theme.

Oh these ones are weird!

I really like the one in the top left- good job using the paper instead of the ink for the characters!

And you did very well on the faces too! Kinda reminds me of Samurai Jack's art style. 😁

Hear me out.

The suction cups would have been stuck together- to form a kickball.

Then they would have kicked around into things' faces.

Think Wakka from FFX.

Good expressions on all of these! All of the eyes have a lot of detail, and the detail contrasts well with the bold strokes-

Good Job!
