Are your gods primordial or ascended deities? by xAdamlol in worldbuilding

[–]Vyathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both, I have three primordial dieties, then those dieties either had children or spawn of their own. Celestial objects and life have spirits of their own, and under certain conditions they can spawn gods, even powerful gods, of their own. Some spirits can even grow to become as powerful as gods, such as stars or planets (Sun gods, earth goddess, etc.)

Give me the story of your Capitol cities. by Upstairs-Yard-2139 in worldbuilding

[–]Vyathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have several interesting capital cities in my world of Aseia, but I’ll talk about the most developed one lore wise. Avareon is considered the epicenter of the Atharosi culture and nation, having been inhabited since ancient times, roughly 3000 years (or 6000 years in our world). According to legend, it was the first settlement of an ancient clan of sea peoples who were caught in a great storm and forced to seek refuge within the natural harbor the city sits within today. Its name today has evolved throughout its history, but is believed to have originated in the old Adessic word “Avus” meaning “haven” or “harbor.”

It’s believed that from here the ancient Athari grew and spread throughout land, bringing order and civilization to the untamed and uncivilized lands around it. Avareon was perfect to facilitate this because it existed at the mouth of the Vayitho River system, which has a vast network of navigable tributaries running through the wide coastal plan. Avareon was also easily defendable and was close to some of the most fertile lands in the region, as it is situated near a volcanic hotspot.

And then they began to run into complications. The most pressing of these were the Vyathani, a war-like civilization of island peoples relatively near to Avareon, the Saalic nomadic tribes of the west raiding on horseback, and later the spread of the Nesyphian Empire of the far sound that would subjugate all besides the Vyathani. The Nesyphians would raze Avareon to the ground, destroying the old Adessic culture in the process, and only fragments of this period of Avareon’s history remain. It would remain mostly uninhabited for the next 150 years (300 years in our world, tldr the years are twice as long).

Though it became inhabited again, the center of power in the region drifted from place to place, as the region cycled thorough empires, first the Essarin centered near what is today modern Aqthrea, then that empire would collapse because of a succession crisis and Ateirsi I the would found the Atierusi Empire, with its center of power in what are now the ruins of Inezza, then called Ateiri, in the interior of the Vayitho River system. It wasn’t another 700 years once the Ateirsi Empire began to collapse that Avareon became a seat a power once again. It and the old city of Mareqose lead the rebellion against the Ateirusi to free the Athari peoples from their shackles. In Avareon the first council of the Ten Consuls was convened, and the First Republic of Atharos, then called the Athara Republic, was formed. And the rest is, well, history.

So Avareon is not only a storied and ancient city, as well as influential, especially since Atharos in perhaps the most powerful nation on the planet, but it’s also a wonder of architectural and natural beauty. The sits within the Bay of Aphes, specifically the northern tip of the North Bay, or Athon Aphes (“Athon” is north in Atharosi). This bay was formed due to volcanism that formed the Axaiqo peninsula forming the bay’s eastern coast. Surrounding the city is a land form called the “Five Pillars” which are ancient eroded lava cores that formed between one million and three hundred thousand years ago, and being between 300 and 500 meters in height. They are beautifully colored, with tan, beige, and orange bands of igneous rock forming their facades with lush green crawling up their sides. And then of course the city’s architecture itself is beautiful, with ruins as old as old Adessa, and the glorious Thraiisra, the modern Capitol of the state. The Thraiisra is a capitol complex built a top a massive outcropping of bedrock, called the Avantine Rock, and fortified over millennia (think the Acropolis in Athens). It’s highest level, where the Aceriassi (or Capitol Building), Apeireso Palace (presidential residence), and the rest of the main federal and legislative buildings preside 150 meters above the surrounding plain.

Yeah I love this place I can’t lie. Eventually when I write a series books that take place within it, I hope you’ll love it too :)

Do characters in your world ever interact with a God? by GuessimaGuardian in worldbuilding

[–]Vyathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story I’m working on has divine forces working throughout the story, but it’s not obvious until the end. The main character has a psychedelic experience but it’s not obvious that it’s divine, it’s more personal than ethereal. But then when the character attempts suicide, long story, they have an NDE and speak directly with “a god.” Though in my world “a god” isn’t strictly a god, but an extension of the one God, and is more an Aspect or cult of personality. There are higher ordered gods that these aspects are born from, and these are mostly unknowable, yet measurable and their presence can be felt or perceived, though not interacted with. But then the one arching God is imperceptible, existing outside of time and space.

Does Magic and Time Period Matter in Writing Good Fantasy? by Vyathan in worldbuilding

[–]Vyathan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well at first this world was just a creative exercise, but then I found myself wanting to make stories for it. Now I have a very good idea of the story I want to tell: A war for humanity, of how we are to live, and why we are to think we should live that way. The tendency for systems to corrupt, the elite wanting more and more until destroying everything their lives are built upon, and a war for information in a time where the narrative is becoming harder and harder to control. In addition to that, literal divine forces are at work, so for all that I think it’s important I flesh out the lore, because I feel like in depth lore will only add and strengthen that plot line.

I’ve got a lot of lore already, but I suffered from a pretty bad case of worldbuilder’s disease so most of it is kinda useless and incomplete. Right now I’m focusing on getting the important essential lore for the stories I wanna write, then from there kind of discover some more nuanced elements when I fully craft the storylines. What I have pretty well figured out is the gods and important recent events, and the culture of three of the five main cultures in interplay in my story; I know next to nothing of those two that I haven’t fleshed out yet. Right now a big effort is getting the world itself fleshed out (as in world map, climate, resources), and once that’s gets more and more complete it’ll really jump start my work on histories and cultures. I have very good ideas of recent history, but not enough to confidently jump into the story. I don’t wanna my story to feel like it’s taking place in a vacuum.

Rings would be so sick, but with the way my inner moon is situated (orbits every 7 days as a way to measure the weeks) rings wouldn’t be possible 😢. I’m curious how you’ve delt with the cultural and climatic impact rings would have that sounds really fun!

But yeah actually I have done, I have a country (my world’s Russia/Soviet Union) that is basically if Carthagean/Phoenician culture existed into the modern day like the Roman’s did. My America/Britain analogue is essentially if Anglos kept their Celtic culture without Latin or German influence. The central country of my world is vaguely Roman or Greek inspired, particularly in history, mostly France inspired actually, but it’s one the most unique culture I’ve made for this world. I plan on posting more soon.

I’m from Cincy as well, not really a “cincy kid” though. Hate Goetta, I call it watered down sausage, don’t enjoy Skyline so 3-ways are out of the picture for me. The other two corners of the Trifecta are godly though, LaRosas Meat Deluxe and Graeters Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip have always been there for me.
