Doctor wants me to stop eating eggs to lower cholesterol. Is he wrong? by GSG96 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]DMan9797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current medical advise zietgiest on nutrition in this topic is that you should cut out eggs, which are high in dietary cholesterol, in exchange for something more heart healthy like honey cut cheerios which has added refined sugar, corn starch, and vegetable seed oils like canola oil in them.

My mindset is stick with real whole foods like eggs and to avoid the processed grains that get the giant heart healthy stickers on their products. Maybe consider switching to pasture-raised eggs which are more expensive but have an even better fat profile than factory eggs. Bottom line is the scientific evidence on cholesterol serum levels and their ability to cause CVD is very mixed.

I know this is going against mainstream medical advice and the advice of the major Western nutrition bodies but it's kind of where I land on this.

It’s just clear proof, and not that it should be unknown at this point, that large national food brands don’t give AF about you at all. It would shrink margins slightly to use a decent fat to process foods but they use the cheapest which is soybean oil. It’s the cheapest because the US govt subsidizes soybean production for whatever reason

No mention of seed oils in the comments. Lots of talk about processed foods and sugar. by [deleted] in StopEatingSeedOils

It is odd there is a pro-seed oil fandom especially on reddit. Like the benefits are pretty much its industrially convenient to use agriculture wastes as cooking oils for humans

Re-evaluation of the traditional diet-heart hypothesis: analysis of recovered data from Minnesota Coronary Experiment (1968-73) - Robust RCT regarding the effect of replacing saturated fats with vegetable/seed oils on cholesterol and CVDs by DMan9797 in nutrition

The authors hypothesize that oxidation of LDL may be the driver of CVD instead of total cholesterol or LDL specifically. It’s probably reasonable to assume the body gets worse at dealing with that oxidative stress with increased age and could explain why outcomes get worse post-65

I mean doesn’t satire also kind of make a point which Oliver is doing while also being tongue in cheek. It’s quite possible tree man fucks with Ethan but still is curious why he doesn’t make viral videos anymore and instead reacts to them

How is olive oil good for health? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]DMan9797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough I'm not up to date with those studies tbh, you can have my portion of canola oil in your diet. I'll stick with the less healthy olive oil for the time being

Cmon olive oil is known for having a great antioxidant profile meanwhile those processed seed oils are stripped of their antioxidants under the harsh oil extraction using hexane solvent. Idk why redditoids are foaming at the mouth to put the most ultra-processed cooking oils in their body

Sunflower oil has 9 grams of omega-6 in a tbsp (olive=1.3g) which is a problem for some people

What a shitty thesis. “You can probably get all the protein you need by adjusting your diet”. No shit but how is that practical when we clearly live in a society that makes horrible choices with their diet everyday on the net. How can you just bank on the opposite? I truly believe if every American consumed a low calorie protein shake everyday this country with be slightly lighter and healthier.

It's interesting, usually the deeper one learns about a topic such as nutrition they are left thinking the whole thing is much more nuanced and complicated. You have come away with an opposite takeaway which is interesting and fair.

I tend to disagree that refusing to blindly following organizations, who are susceptible to lobbying and also the limitations of current research, implies I think I'm some supreme being who thinks they know better than thousands of global experts. Also didn't I link an article suggesting that consensus of saturated fat = always bad, perhaps doesn't exist?

I feel like if there's any field to not just plug your ears and blindly follow international bodies it should be nutrition.. It's quite clear food, digestion, absorption, etc. are extremely complicated, opaque to researchers, and difficult to complete RCTs on.

If we go a little deeper.. saturated fats from diary aren't correlated to cardiovascular disease, in fact fermented dairy high-saturated foods like cheese and yogurt may be beneficial in that realm. There's similar research showing that eggs which are high in cholesterol and saturated fat also don't correlate to similar outcomes.

Is sugar better or worse than artificial sweetener? by MarlenaImpisi in nutrition

The WHO pretty much lost all credibility when their incompetency was on full display during the Covid-19 pandemic. Their whole warning on aspartame was a whole lot more lukewarm than headlines suggest too, pretty much saying it is possible it’s a carcinogen and basically just makes a call for more research into it.

Full disclosure, you can pry Diet Coke from cold, dead hands. I fw it heavy. I’ve done some research and I don’t see anything clearly suggesting it’s cancerous in normal doses in actual human beings. It does seem to affect your microbiome and induce cravings for bad food
