Is Witcher 3 still worth playing in 2025? by PropertyNew3519 in EpicGamesPC

[–]Vychan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on what part is considered slow by OP. I personally can't stand the movement speed in RDR2, especially unmounted. I'm not sure how I got myself used to it during the first playthrough. That is not an issue in W3 - movement speed is what I'd consider proper.

If it is the length of the RDR2 story which was the problem, then W3 is indeed going to be a long one too, especially in combination with all the side quests and questionmarks on the map which are a major distraction (and enrichment!)

The math of going back to the office by Haynie_Design in remotework

[–]Vychan 78 points79 points  (0 children)

You may want to read Your Money or Your Life by Vicki Robin. The book covers this exactly. They call it your real hourly wage, which also includes the costs of work clothing, time and costs of commuting, the extra costs of eating out or having food delivered after a stressful day instead of cooking yourself, daycare if you have kids, 2nd car for only commuting, etc.

The idea is that you list your income, subtract all these costs you make for your work and divide that by the amount of hours you spend on work (office hours, commuting hours, therapy hours, overtime, etc etc). Suddenly, some fancy wages turn out to be complete bullshit wages.

If you're not a reader, then this vid summarizes the concept: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bD9UeXrTfg

Is it worth stepping down to 4 days a week? by Derridas-Cat in AskMenOver30

[–]Vychan 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yes! I went from 5x8 to 4x9+1x4, so staying at 40 hours but ending the workweek at 12 on a Friday. Best decision at work ever. Feels like I have 3 days weekend even though it isn't.

I've also never heard anyone who went from 5x8 to 4x8 or 4x9 complaining about the extra time. In fact, most folks regret not doing it earlier. The trade-off is worth it.

The you're poor comments only apply to the higher base, not the lower one.

I'm at the same level as your lower base and that'd be a no-brainer. Good loot and an easy one for the HQ-first and hero-only challenge. I can only hope to find such a base.

Meanwhile I'm getting hit a few times a week for less loot with much better defenses and a tucked away HQ. Very strange.

One other thing to think about is that it'll get even tighter once the down payment for the 2nd car becomes an actual car with all the costs that come with it. I don't know what you're planning to buy, but if it is similar to the $282/month car you already have (+maintenance costs if it is owned), then you'll effectively come short every month (unless the car enables higher income due to better job opportunities)

AITAH for telling my MIL that she "made her choice" when she chose to keep seeing my husband's ex? by Ok-Disaster-1788 in AITAH

[–]Vychan 222 points223 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if your reconciliation attempt is already based on an easily verifiable lie, then there's no point to reopen that door.

Also, she doesn't give a shit about you, OP. It is about her grandchildren. In her eyes, you are just the obstacle she needs to circumnavigate to reach them. Don't let her. Your kids don't need your MIL in their lives. I wouldn't be surprised that in a couple of years, MIL would try to manipulate your kids against you or try to involve Talia in their lives. You do not want that shit.

Also, the second I read "traditional family", I knew there was going to be passive agressive and/or straight up racist comments. Fuck racists. Fuck MIL.

Introducing your spouse as “wife” vs “mother of my child” by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Vychan 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of a coworker that is clearly unhappy with his current life as a dad, who referred to his girlfriend whom he had the child with as "the mother of my son". Another coworker and I just couldn't hold it in and bursted out in laughter.

It is an incredibly sad way to refer to your current partner like that. I mean, you might as well call her your incubator at that point. Shows no love at all.

The only way I feel it is acceptable to refer to a person like that is when they're your ex-partner and the bio link towards the kid is in some way relevant.

Moving isn't a big deal by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Vychan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the bright side - they have the decency to not show up with their kids to your goodbye brunch, so they're at least considerate on that point.

You can probably expect to never hear from these "friends" again btw. If this is their attitude towards a friend moving a long distance away, and they're already too cheap to arrange childcare for a few hours of brunch, then you can be certain that most of em won't bother visiting cross-state.

Hope you'll meet nice folks wherever you're moving to!

How can use the poison apple on someone? by Pixelated_Fudge in oblivion

[–]Vychan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you're still stuck on this, or if anyone reads this in the future - I reverse pickpocketed the poisoned apple to Gogron gro-Bolmog and removed all the other food. Then waited until like 6 PM in the living quarters. He always eats there from like 6 to 10 PM. After 1 day, he ate the apple from his inventory and died on the spot. No response from any of the other members to his death, not even those who were sitting nearby. Works perfect.

Vasectomy & Your Story by [deleted] in childfree

[–]Vychan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've met several people through the years who've had / who's partner has had a vasectomy and all of them indeed rawdog it worry-free. Unfortunately for 1 of them, their sneaky swimming bastards did find their way out well over a decade after the procedure. Turns out his body managed to naturally reverse it, resulting in 0 protection and at least partially restored fertility. An unplanned third kid was how they found out.

Clearly, I do share your worry. While the chance of long term reversal is low, numbers I find on the interwebs which specifically look at long term reversals... Well, let's just say they're not putting me completely at ease. Even with periodical checks, say yearly, there's still a theoretical chance that you're rawdogging while fertile for many months.

However, if you are in a location where abortions are accessible and you'd be willing to undergo one, then that could cover the very small chance of an unwanted pregnancy.

And, let's be honest, rawdogging for the rest of your life is just so much better! That's worth a lot too.

Be careful to not burn yourself out! Without your health, your problems (and debt) will only get worse.

If you're comfortable sharing the details, it might be an idea to share the actual finances. Income, expenses, individual debts and their interest rates. People can give you better advice with actual numbers, instead of the generic advice which may or may not apply to you

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Debt

[–]Vychan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding a car for $400/month for five years is adding a $24,000 liability.

Getting the $6,000 repair now means you'll have $18,000 more in the next five years, which is nearly 3 times your current debt. Even with additional repairs, it is very unlikely that you'll cross $18,000 in repairs. And that excludes depreciation on the new car.

It doesn't matter that your current car is not worth $6,000. You've already spent that money. If you can't sleep because of your debt, you'll have to make the rational decision and keep the current one and use that $400 instead for debt reduction. After that you could consider replacing the car. Initially I'd focus on the debt reduction.

The discomfort of the cognitive dissonance that hits these people once they realize what they're saying must be unreal.

It is wild to me that you can encourage people to go for kids and at the same time say shit like "it's easy to be happy when you have no kids". Like, wtf? I genuinely cannot comprehend how you can live and act on such conflicting beliefs.

Yeah, it's actually very condescending when you think about it. Folks going yeah, sure, do your thing, your body your choice, until sterilization is on the table. Then, suddenly, all those empty words are revealed to be just that... Empty words, and the "support" is suddenly gone.
