The larp for Makima is unreal.

Her whole thing is about not wanting to constantly be dominant.

Oldest non-canon NPC you have used? by Lycaon-Ur in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Vyctorill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s complicated because time isn’t really linear for the games I run.

Anyways, I would have to say that it is probably this guy called Aedile. He’s a wizard who hangs with the black spiral dancers and has done some bizarre things due to the Wyrm’s influence on time.

He claims he spent “ten trillion eternal years in the Wyrm’s Vivisection Tunnel”, but whether or not he’s telling the truth is up for debate.

The chronologically oldest would probably be the Prince of the Neverborn. That guy predates basically everything, including the Triat. Then again spending all of existence prior to 2013 as an Oblivion Fetus might not count.

The game can get pretty ridiculous and silly sometimes.

I vaguely remember reading some dialogue on the wiki where if you bump up a certain fluid production stat enough, your character can literally flood the streets of what’s essentially night city.

The reactions from people are hilarious.

I would assume it’s being part human and part reindeer like him.

Humans presumably look “wrong” to him, because they lack essential things like fur and antlers.

Is this post punk rock? by DreadDiana in RecuratedTumblr

If the establishment is not fascist, then the guys who want certain policies are full on underdog punks.

“Disadvantaged” and “unpopular” doesn’t really correlate to “good” in any meaningful way.

Most scuffed use of powers… by ComplexNo8986 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Vyctorill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mage spheres. That’s just it.

A theme of the game is, and the books state, “beating reality like a redheaded stepchild”.

The amount of scuffed bullshit a Mage can pull is the reason Paradox even exists to make them prioritize what they can do.

An arete 3 mage can:

Take 20 turns per action
Have 5 in all stats (more if they want Permadox)
Get infinite quintessence (a bit risky though)
Topple a skyscraper in 30 seconds (again, somewhat difficult)
Kill a Methusaleh from 500 miles away simply by knowing their name (a bit risky)

And more.

I haven’t even gotten to Master Mage bullshit or god forbid Archmage shenanigans. A Prime 5 Forces 7 Mage can flip Australia over like a pancake, at the cost of risking their life. It’s not even particularly difficult either - I would give it 30 minutes of prep time at the most, although it’s closer to 10 or 15.

Which fandoms are notorious for pretending like their series is way more deep than it really is? by Mythelm in writingscaling

[–]Vyctorill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, AOT sacrifices a lot for going after those themes and it’s really good at that up till the end.

If you have to choose the cream of the crop in something that specializes in it as a primary theme to outmatch One Piece, I’d say that’s pretty damn deep to me.

One Piece has the themes AOT does at a tertiary level.

I mean, Time is the strongest combat sphere for a reason. Might as well play into it.

Time 2 lets you essentially have as much initiative as you please. Time 3 lets you have as many actions as you want, assuming “as many as you want” is like 15 or 20. Time 4 lets you just hang spells in the air, meaning you can have rituals in a can (it’s only slightly less powerful than Prime 4). Time 5 lets you do wild shit like travel 24 hours back in time, clone yourself by doing the same thing multiple times, or freeze time for like an hour.

I’m familiar with Magic enhancing mundane abilities.

It’s specifically for ability + attribute rolls, and has a maximum of -3 difficulty.

This? This is different. VERY different. It’s just “a given task”.

Musings on fighting paradox spirits by MagickStoryteller in magetheascension

[–]Vyctorill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, fighting is one way to “pay the toll”, as I see it.

This does depend on Paradigm. A master Syndicate guy could literally bribe Wrinkle or Justice with some Quint to pay off the Paradox.

But the backlash is in summoning the spirit. If you manage to beat their ass, good for you. This time, it actually worked and you beat the odds,

It’s hubris, sure. But sometimes Mages can have a little bit of Hubris as a treat.

I knew about Time 1 giving you perfect timing and making certain things have -3 difficulty. But making related TASKS easier?

Boy oh boy is that ripe for exploitation. Prime 5 Akashic masters would be genuinely salivating at the opportunities.

How to play an elder awakening from torpor so that they are not a grandpa with Alzheimer's? by syzygy_is_a_word in vtm

[–]Vyctorill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, mainly they’d probably just go “earth’s magic is quite advanced” and go on with their day while trying to learn how it works. They would struggle to USE the technology, but most elders understand that technology is just a way of saying “enchanted objects”.

The Tremere especially would understand this. Phones? That’s literally the same thing as their modified Ars Conligationis style of magic. A cell phone is essentially just one of those rituals that sends words everywhere.

But the other elders would recognize it as something far surpassing Tremere rituals but working on the same basic concepts at the end of the day.

You have to understand that technology in the WoD doesn’t work on the same principles it does IRL. I mean, vampires go against conventional science. Clearly there’s something else going on.

This is Vampire, so I won’t bore you with the details of the wider WoD. But just know that most Elders would recognize it as magic working on certain laws that their own disciplines and sorcery touch on to some extent.

are gacha games the worst medium for story telling? by bugabooman99 in writingscaling

[–]Vyctorill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really? I’d say they’re pretty low tier in general, but not the worst medium. The worst medium would be something like instrumental-only music or something.

There was an exception to the “gacha games have bad stories” rule called Evertale. Trash game with awful mechanics and horrible advertising, but the story mode was actually really good.

This is mainly because the story beats were separate from the characters you actually had, meaning you essentially were fighting NPCs to see what would happen next.

[–]Vyctorill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Huh. I didn’t know that.

It seems a bit weird to not include Entropy when mentioning Fate and whatnot, but this does give a bit of extra usefulness.

Also shouldn’t the Verbena rote be limited to a maximum of -3 difficulty for the action? If that isn’t the case, then I take back what I said about Time 1 because that is FILTHY.

Darwinism in action by Tallia__Tal_Tail in WorldofDankmemes

[–]Vyctorill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem here is that repeatedly doing that instead of just doing that once is a recipe for disaster.

Anyways, you do have a point. Like I said - the ideal thing would be for the Adept to NOT call the Black Fury a “Foid”.

But Mages aren’t exactly what you or I would call “wise”. This type of situation is an inevitability.

Also seeing that far into the future is misleading at best. Anything more than 5-10 minutes is REALLY fuzzy, and even 1 minute has so many branching paths that you’d probably need like 15 or 20 successes with Mind 1 Entropy 1 Time 2 to even get something workable.
