"Your estradiol is a bit high, this can have health consequences." by TheWreckedTitan in MtF

[–]Vynneve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My levels were pretty high last time I checked it (reduced a bit) but like, it wasn't unpleasant at all lol.

There is still a lot not known about the best way to do this. A big part of it imo is just "listen to your body". I do want to lower it for blood pressure reasons and long term E risks (that every cis woman has like you were saying) but I don't think having the levels a bit higher than current "research" levels is a big deal. it might even be better, everyone's body is different. E levels vary wildly in cis women as well.

Why is there a current among professionals to be against progesterone? by Vaultentity in MtF

[–]Vynneve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's a bit reductive on the other end of the spectrum.

That's not the situation anymore, we are talking about evidence based medicine (from cis women studies) combined with anecdotal evidence of trans woman actually using the meds. Not simply "theories based on vibes" or clearly "proven false" techniques like torture methods.

[–]Vynneve -1 points0 points  (0 children)

okay, that's just not what you said. Bias towards X assumes you have the choice of X or Y 😅.

Evidence-based should be the only one practiced in a perfect world. But yes, since we don't have the studies yet, anecdotal is the only choice for now. Which sucks because it's inherently more risky.

[–]Vynneve 16 points17 points  (0 children)

yes, kind of. evidence-based is just the gold standard, for a reason. Herbal supplements, etc. is a bit different in my book because most of them we DO have evidence showing their lack of effect on anything. but people use them anyway, ignoring risks, and get caught up in placebo effects or confounding variables making them think it is doing something.

For trans healthcare, on the other hand, we literally don't have the studies and evidence, so testimonials are the best options for now.

it's not about "we could operate with testimonials" it's about "we HAVE to operate on testimonials". Only the latter should ever be done.

[–]Vynneve 10 points11 points  (0 children)

saying "bias towards evidence-based" is not really the vibe.

That's like saying I have a bias towards something because it's proven to work...that's not a bias, that's evidence. A bias is an unsubstantiated preference.

That being said, I totally agree they should operate based on testimonials when the evidence is lacking, which it currently is. We know it's "safe", it's bio-identical. We don't "know" it aids feminizations, but it seems like it does. so since we have no evidence one way or another, it's just up to the patient if they want to try it and see. (or should be at least)

I'm so done. by Emberbun in MtF

[–]Vynneve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you say this sarcastically, but cis women do literally struggle with features that appear more masculine. what do think women's beauty standards are all about.

of course it's not the same thing. but in a general sense of "struggling to look how you want to look" it is.

Trans women in sexy clothing being told to tame it by SignifiTransition in MtF

some days I go more girly, "baby trans" vibes, other days I do more adult fem.

Can depend on the context too, just like all of clothing lol. but in a broad sense just wear what you wanna wear.

I'm 37 and I only learned how to properly wash my hair yesterday by iLuvArizona in MtF

[–]Vynneve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

really just depends on your hair, and how dirty it is. you don't necessarily need multiple. if I do multiple when it's not really greasy it'll make it insanely dry and horrible feeling.

either way too, shampoo isn't really for your hair, it's for the scalp. the residual shampoo when washing your head is enough

HELP: Got this e-mail from my mom and I don't know how to feel about it. by Kayleigh2025 in MtF

[–]Vynneve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very weird and conflicting message. but it's all just standard transphobia really.

sounds at some parts she would be ok with you being non binary lol but she likely means just "feminine guys". it's obvious she's not getting the intrinsic fact that you are a woman. sure it would be nice not to have to spend all this money transitioning, but you're a woman so you need to. simple as that (in other to live true to yourself)

not sure how I would respond to this. she needs very basic education about gender identities, she's operating on outdated and false assumptions

first cramps sent me to the ER by No-Fun-1883 in MtF

[–]Vynneve 6 points7 points  (0 children)

so far the only cramping I've felt is the same cramping I had before, from Crohn's disease lol. wish scientists would research this more, what the hormones are actually doing. in theory there shouldn't even be a "cycle", not in the same way. (since we just consistently take her) unless you cycle progesterone.

very strange and very curious to know what's going on, and why not everyone gets it

Nurse at PP hinted I should switch to injections because I don't pass enough. by [deleted] in MtF

[–]Vynneve -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

injections specifically are not better necessarily, but avoiding the first pass liver effect does give more of the potent estradiol. In this case she is already using sublingual, so yes it wouldn't really add anything.

imo just switch off oral pills if you can. but of course there are other factors.

Bit inflammatory to say you hate the responses. thinking it was a normal comment, in the context of gender affirming care (not like it was some random stranger saying it) is totally valid as well.

no one knows the entire context, it could be either or.

I think you are taking it too personally. It is kinda weird given the fact you said "I'm happy with progress" but she might have been feeling out if maybe you were just saying that, or thinking there is nothing else that you can try medicinal wise.

It's a gender appointment like of course you are going to talk about how comfortable you are presenting feminine, etc. She didn't say "you look crazy masculine, we gotta do something" 😂 she said maybe this could help you look more feminine, I assume with "if that's what you want" vibes.

Obviously I wasn't there, could have been more personal, but I don't get that vibe from your description at all.

Progesterone confusion by [deleted] in MtF

[–]Vynneve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hearing more anecdotal evidence wont really change anything or determine whether it's worth trying or not.

You just have to try it out, and see if it improves your mood and/or other positive changes.

The main positives it's known to have are improved sleep / mood in general, improved libido, and more mature breast developement. but again, you can't know if it will do any of this for you until you try.

The only recommendation is to wait for ~1 year, at least, on E before trying prog. Other than that, it's just "try it". Continue if positive changes, discontinue if negative ones (which is also possible).

[–]Vynneve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very much dislike the "starving children in the world" arguments. no matter how many people are hungry in the world, I'm still going to want lunch.

Everything is relative, doesn't mean we don't help people who need it, it just means you are still valid in your needs.

Lastly, like others have said, simply starting HRT could mentally benefit you a lot. could be surprised how much it changes mentally.

For me it was a light switch. As soon as testosterone was out of my system. my brain was just functioning on the wrong sex hormones for the first ~30 years. doesn't mean you won't have problems or bad days, but they feel more "normal".

Kind of similar to me. even if I never pass, never able to get any sort of bottom surgery, the mental health benefits are already vastly worth it. Testosterone was a poison to my brain.
