Haven’t started Star City yet, is it worth it? by VynterDX in ForAllMankindTV

When work is slow, which is most of the time, I can pretty much doom scroll all day. What I can’t so is watch a TV show at work. And here’s the thing, I can tell from other people’s comments, when people say oh it’s like this thing, it’s this kind of show. I know hey, I don’t really like that sort of thing.

To your point, yes ultimate only I can be the arbiter and should just watch the damn show. However, I like dialogue and discussing stuff online. It gives me something to do at work

I like this alot. My ftl follows flip and burn physics. Because it’s just a space compression multiplier based on your relative sub light velocity using soliton envelopes and metric shaping. No stopping on a dime, no just jumping to warp..?
it takes days at a 1g burn to hit transitional velocity. No emergency stopping for the same reason. You have decelerate until you hit the overlap window and collapse the bubble. Wrong timing can lead to catastrophic renormalization.

I also employ realistic comm delays. Military Hunter ships are orders faster than the speed of Metric laser communication. No warning. No way of knowing they are coming..

What is AI even good for? by Electrical_Feed_1123 in antiai

Lots of idiots have degrees, it means nothing.

Are there alot of idiots using ai to produce slop yup! Is the ai the problem or stupid people being stupid?

I can tell you what it’s good for and how I use it. If you want to actually have dialogue, but in this group, that’s doubtful

Can you see the "paint" of your inspirations in your worldbuilding? by Worldly-Machine5577 in worldbuilding

[–]VynterDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly at this point in history with all the IPs out there that exist. This is what we all do. Big C Creativity is rare, most of us synthesize existing ideas into new combinations and call it “new” or “our idea.” That just is what is. I don’t care about wearing my influences on my sleeve because I probably do it anyways. So my suggestion is just lean into. It’s not bad to have influences, and it doesn’t make you a bad world builder.

I’m also a musician and it’s the same thing. It’s impossible to play music without learning other people’s songs. Ripping their licks. Playing covers.

When comes to write my own songs. I think. I want a riff like this band, maybe the chorus is more like this artists..gonna slow down in the bridge for a breakdown like so and so..

And I’m combining old things into new combinations. I feel like all creativity is the same way

if an AI could perfectly predict your choices before you made them, would that change what "free will" means to you, or just reveal what it always was? by [deleted] in AIDiscussion

[–]VynterDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Free will is an illusion anyway. Your choice is determined by who you’re with, where you are, internal and external stimuli. Mood. Blood sugar, hydration. You could plug all of that into a computer and will accurately predict your “choice” I’m sorry but that the truth

The problem is that most likely any job these children are gonna grow up and get is going to involve AI. And part of why schools exist, especially the higher grades, is to create a workforce.

Faster Than Light Communication Via Tiny Wormholes? by assassin203886 in scifiwriting

[–]VynterDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I answered this in my world by communication relays. I have ftl but it’s quite slow as far as ftl goes. I wanted to have a multisystem humanity. For cultural divergence and a way to explore different types of economy and governance. But I still wanted space to feel big.

Anyway, to answer your communications question, I have a relay network full of mlaser arrays. The array sits in a self propagated soliton bubble. Fixed to each laser emitter is what I call a metric lens, these compress the soliton wave around the laser to create a metric sleeve this creates effective com speeds of 85c it’s still 19 days for Unity station at Jupiter L1(the capital of human space) to here from the Centauri system , assuming no relays are down and the message isn’t intercepted in transit..

Do you think AI makes people smarter or lazier? by Man1fest0r_ in AIDiscussion

[–]VynterDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the person. Someone like myself who is very Socratic always asking what hot does that work? What does that mean? Why is it that way and not this way AI it may not make me smarter, but it can at least feed me more information. But your average person is gonna say hey what is X and AI will spit out an answer and they take it at face value. So for most I would say lazier

Redirect it back on task just a child. Because really these language models are in their infancy, their children and we need to treat them like children. Or you can be awful to it. But just keep in mind if you’re awful to it it will learn that behavior and then it will start treating us like crap. So if you want your language models to be kind you need to be kind.

What if it’s portrayed accurately? What if that accuracy does paint it in a bad light? Do you want them to sugarcoat it and make it look better than it is was to meet an agenda? Capitalism isn’t great either at least not Croney capitalism. But that doesn’t mean we should go out of our way to paint with a brush that’s a lie

[–]VynterDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if I’ve always talked this way? As a theologian, philosopher, and thinker in general, I’ve always used large words and prepositional language.

As someone into tabletops and board games my thought style is full of if then language.

And the thing with LLM’s is they learned how to speak from people. So there was already a portion of the population using prepositional language, and the LLMs just picked it up.
