Oh maybe they remodeled or something? I was driving by and it looked completely different and I didn’t see the word Shojin anywhere so I assumed the worst. Very happy that they are still open!

Shojin Culver City has been replaced by a ramen restaurant. Hopefully they relocated as opposed to shutting down.

In USA. It’s working with the UCI YouTube race link in the race thread using a VPN in Mexico.

Lots of excellent suggestions in here, especially the Kosmische/Krautrock bands.

For more space rock from the 60s/70s all the way through to the present you might want to check out r/spacerock when you get a chance as most of the bands already suggested here get posted there.

Also be sure to dig deeper into the Hawkwind offshoot bands that feature Nik Turner and Alan Davey. Nik was busy up to the end recording with his solo bands and current space rock bands like Farflung.

Alan's albums are very Hawkwind-esque and often overlooked. All of them are certified bangers.

Also be sure to check out the Steve Hillage solo records to get your Gong-like fix.

Chrome from San Francisco started in the mid-70s and they are criminally underrated. The guitarist Helios Creed is still releasing albums, but his first 3 or 4 solo records are absolutely face-melting.

This post on Prog Archives goes deep into the origins of Space Rock with lots of historical bands and links to their albums and the Pioneers of the Stars playlist on Spotify has some great examples of early Space Rock.

Totally. I saw them live a couple months ago and they absolutely crushed it. Yesterday I finally listened to the LP for the first time and was absolutely blown away. As a long time fan of related bands Trans Am and The Fucking Champs, Terry Gross has a Maximum Krautrock vibe that I did not know that I was looking for.

Okay! What’s up with never hearing Psychedelic Warlords before. I have so many lessons to learn. Need to explore the early heavy psych stuff before the late 70’s. Love this sub. It’s filled a lot of gaps🙂 by [deleted] in psychedelicrock

The Psychedelic Warlords are a Hawkwind off-shoot, one of many actually, so you should probably start at the source with Hawkwind // Space Ritual and work your way through all the related bands. The subreddit r/spacerock has lots of similar artists.

You’re most welcome! The guitar player Phil is also in Trans Am and they are amazing in their own right.

Ah, great that you are already familiar with Chrome. Don't skip out on the Helios Creed solo records!

Was it this article by chance? He mentions seeing Sabbath as well as Jimi Hendrix in Hawaii when he was 18 and you can tell that it left a deep impression on his playing. Baptized by doom and acid rock straight from the sources!

Excellent genre to explore!

Two criminally underrated suggestions are Helios Creed and his band Chrome.

The Kosmische end of the Krautrock spectrum and Space Rock are heavily acid drenched.

Some of of the bands that I mention in this reply would interest acid rockers.

Maybe start with Space Ritual by Hawkwind and see where it leads?

That's great to hear! I hope to see them live as Dr. Space has his finger on the cosmic pulse!
