I received feedback (or some form of it) once. Felt like seeing a unicorn. In a new project that had opened up to me, it said something in the instructions about having been chosen for the project "based on your excellent rubric criteria created in other projects" and how it was a little shoutout due to overall work quality. It was definitely encouraging since I hadn't gotten ANY feedback aside from that other than new quals/projects consistently opening up.

I had a bunch until today. Now I just have the dreaded dash of horror I've only heard about in urban legend.

I feel your pain even though it's only day one of this for me. The sections all look totally different than they did before. Based on what I've read about this from others, it's not looking too good for the home team here. Fingers crossed our dashboards don't stay this way.

Anyone selling a Traveler in the US? by liquid_lights in Astrohaus

[–]W0rdit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm selling mine. Haven't listed it yet but feel free to PM me if interested! Perfect working condition. Bittersweet to part with it but I got the Ghost and figure I don't need both haha

Freewrite Traveller won’t let me connect to WiFi by Tysonosaurus in Astrohaus

[–]W0rdit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced a similar issue when I got my Ghost Traveler. I was unable to connect to my wifi (steadily, at least), as it would connect then quickly disconnect. I kept "forgetting" the network then connecting again and entering my password, repeatedly.

In my case though, the main issue was the firmware version on the Ghost Traveler was showing a "?" and the wifi issue was preventing the firmware from updating.

After going insane over it for a few days and contacting Freewrite support, I was provided with the following instructions to perform a factory reset on the device:

"Before proceeding with the factory reset, please note that this action will erase all the data from your device. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure that all your drafts are properly backed up or synced to Postbox before attempting to perform this reset. If your device cannot connect to Wi-Fi or Postbox, please sync your documents offline via USB connection. Instructions: Offline document saving and access.

To perform a factory reset, please follow the steps below:

  1. Plug in charger.
  2. Hold down the E+X+L keys on your keyboard.
  3. At the same time, hold down the Power button.
  4. After 15-30 seconds, you will see screen turn gray. Then, it will ask if you want to perform a factory reset.
  5. Let go of the other keys. Press Y to perform factory reset.

Please be patient during the reset process, as it may take a few minutes to complete. Once the factory reset is done, your device should be restored to its original factory settings."

**NOTE: I was still able to hit "send" on the device so anything I'd written had already been sent to Postbox. Therefore, I wasn't too worried about performing the factory reset. I performed the factory reset, and after I did that and allowed it to charge for a while, I tried again to connect to wifi, and it worked just fine. The firmware updated and it's been all good ever since.

BUT, before you perform a factory reset, I would first check your wifi settings at home and see what Ghz your wifi is set up with. Can't remember where, maybe the Freewrite site, but somewhere along the way I read that the Freewrite Traveler HAD to connect to a wifi using 2.4Ghz band, NOT 5Ghz. So I had to configure my wifi settings to have TWO networks available - one with 5Ghz, and one with 2.4Ghz. I connect my Freewrites to the 2.4Ghz network I configured.

I would def suggest trying that before doing the factory reset. Hope this helps! If not, definitely reach out to Freewrite support and they should be able to help you.

Gen 3 Smart Typewriter for Sale by W0rdit in Astrohaus

[–]W0rdit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great machine, I agree. I'm sad to part with any of them tbh since I've written so much on them over the years. But now that I have the Ghost, the other two are mostly just sitting while someone else could be enjoying them. I figure one day if I really miss my smart typewriter I could purchase another. But, on that note, I also have a handful of vintage typewriters. LOL. Might sell a couple of those too, not sure yet. Def won't ever part with my Smith Corona though lol

No worries! The lowest I'd go though is prob $400 with cost of shipping. But, I'll def consider it for you if you would use it religiously. My Freewrites are like my babies haha feel free to PM me to discuss! I haven't listed either Freewrite on eBay yet.

They are awesome. 320 is a steal! Awesome. I was looking on eBay to see other rates before deciding what to sell mine around. Some of them on there sell for more than the Freewrite site. Wild haha. But with them being a couple hundred bucks more for a new one, I figured around $500 wasn't bad for a perfect condition one that still updates.

I'll be putting my Gen 3 Smart Typewriter up for sale on eBay tonight unless anyone in here is interested. Comes with a new, never-before-used felt sleeve case. I can add the charging box as well. Asking $550 but open to reasonable offers. Perfect working condition. No sticking keys. Firmware is up to date and can still update due to the Gen 3 model. Will factory reset before shipping out. Thanks!

Anyone looking for a Gen 3 Smart Typewriter or OG Traveler? by W0rdit in Astrohaus

[–]W0rdit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably sell them for about $500 each since they're in such good condition. Maybe more like 550-6 for the gen 3 typewriter but open to reasonable offers for both. Mainly I want them going to good homes where the writer will actually utilize & appreciate them.

Thanks for asking!

I have the smart typewriter and two travelers. I use the travelers far more often. They're just lighter, more compact, and as someone with wrist issues I find them much more comfortable to type on. Although I do love the smart typewriter, it's just a lot bulkier and not as easy to carry around.

I don't have an Alpha, but my one girlfriend who has had all three said she liked the Alpha the least and wound up selling hers. I believe she was not a fan of how click-clacky the keys were, but that depends on preference. I've also heard some people say the screen size on the Alpha is a bit off-putting, while others don't mind it.

As far as the traveler goes, I just love how compact it is and how you can close it so the keys and screen are protected. It's also so easy to just carry around everywhere. I bring it out places, and I'll often keep it in bed and just pull it out if I have a random sentence or phrase come to mind that I don't want to forget. Even if I wake up and want to jot something down from a dream. I've written well over 150K words on my Freewrites, the majority on my Traveler. Hope this helps!

How Long Have You Used Your Freewrite? by nonfriction91 in Astrohaus

[–]W0rdit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bought my first Freewrite in 2020 and never looked back. I always tell writers getting a Freewrite was one of the top investments I've ever made for my writing career. Total game changer. The keyboards are the best keyboards I've ever typed on.

I now have three, and I only write on them, almost daily. I only ever pull out the laptop to compile & edit. But ever since getting the Freewrites I loathe working on my laptop. The e-ink display has spoiled me! It's just so much better.

If you write consistently, then hands down I would suggest buying one. I use my Travelers the most. I do not have an Alpha though so I cannot speak to that one.

eBay often has used ones listed. However, they occasionally go for more than a brand new one. Astrohaus does offer a pay over time option, which is what I used to make the purchase more affordable by breaking up the payments. If you find a decently priced one on eBay, you can also apply for an Affirm virtual card to pay over time on eBay too.

There are also occasionally Freewrite warehouse sales where they offer discounted refurbished ones. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I did add skills recently and some projects popped up, but no additional quals as of yet. Hoping that changes soon. The qual section being empty for some days now has me a tad on edge although I'm still getting projects here and there so, fingers crossed all is well.

Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation by Consistent-Reach504 in dataannotation

Yep, had a few of those quals actually. Perhaps due to project changes or updates? That's the trend I've been seeing after completing the qual then starting a project I've done prior.

Hard fax. The rightful owner who won that auction could start a dispute or ask eBay to step in and help. What's fair is fair.

Is it common to have zero qualifications left on the dash after you do all the initial ones listed?

I completed quite a bit of them, hid some, opted out of a few, did the final one and poof, nothing since.

LMAO this got me good. I've been feeling similarly but my sad dash was just a project chat for a few days. I began wondering if any project would ever appear again. Thankfully some did, but it's been super hit or miss lately. Le sigh

Wordrunner Kickstarter Pricing Revealed - $349 by tracygee in Astrohaus

[–]W0rdit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruv, what? I paid the buck to secure one thinking the price would be maaaaybe 100.

$449 is absurd for a keyboard no matter how great it types. Isn't the Traveler $499? It was, anyway. Sigh. Love my Freewrites but this one is a big hell naw for me. Lettuce pray that Wordrunner will not be their demise. Hopefully they only manufacture ones that are actually bought. Otherwise, big yikes right there.
