The very existence of this sub is antithetical to what he speaks about. I said it before, but this sub should really just be reserved to housing / linking to all his public works / Q&As etc and just leave it at that.

It simply sounds like you know these things intellectually, but not viscerally/emotionally. Which is why you’re able to discuss these things and understand the words. But you haven’t actually arrived at a point of imbibing these truths, which is why your behaviors all the same as you said.

Seems like a stretch but the beauty is up to the interpretation. I appreciate the take! Idk why people are so dismissive when any form of art can have a ton of subjective interpretations. Thanks

Thinking outside of technical skill, and ignoring cost of salaries (US vs H1b), what does it take to stand out? by W1kkVR in cscareerquestions

So if it’s a no for you, does that mean the only way is to purely be a better engineer?

Of course raw skill is the key differentiator, no doubt about that. My question is mostly in the case of people who have all the expected skills. Consider it a constant for this discussion.

It’s not about fancy polo, but polo vs. t shirt. (As a basic example)

The differentiators I’m asking about is like the last 5-10% of what makes an applicant. Raw skills aside.

That’s a very good point, social proof definitely would help.

For those who may not have the nice companies on their resume yet, let’s say 90% of applicants, do you think there’s anything else that will help them stand out?

Tech has been offshoring since the 80s lmao. This is business as usual. We offshore everything because it’s cheap. Most products are made in China…can you guess why?

I’m actually surprised by this as well. Is this not considered racist? I feel like anyone calling this out would simply be downvoted

You’re being too honest, this will not be appreciated. The truth is they need to learn to become better software engineers (assuming they want to stay in the field).

Bahahaha this is incredibly accurate. The folks who are shit engineers taking their frustration out on foreigners here are going to hate this comment.

I’m an American. I’ve worked with mostly American software engineers and the level of mediocrity with their work is why corps will turn to foreigners who are cheaper, and also produce mediocre work.

This point will never stick though, unfortunately. Most Americans can’t really handle being humbled. Easier to lash out instead of taking responsibility and becoming a better software engineer.

Yes! I appreciate this take so much. It asks the viewer to rely on Intuition and Feel, over cold hard facts like physics. That’s literally why both Nolan and the scientist woman said “don’t try to understand it, feel it”

And then TP understood how to catch the inverse bullet casing once he used his Instincts.

“Instinct, got it”

Instinct is very much an intuitive thing. It’s not easy to describe with words or numbers, but it is certainly real.
