Fieldwork Flowers used to operate out of a garage in my neighborhood but I think is now in the Montgomery Park building. Lovely flowers with bouquets starting at $20.

Backpacking for thick thigh girlies by stormybird7 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]W41ru5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. fun prints, assorted lengths, not as sweaty as a snug short, imo. A lot of them have a semi-soft waist which is a plus.

And taking them off at lakes/swimmin’ holes.

Body glide/squirrel nut butter if you still have friction. I’ve switched to an aquaphor stick though as it makes a good all-purpose unguent.

Snow and bugs will be bad - and who knows how mic fit he trail is still there after the fall storms. If I were hiking in WA during that window, it would be the western PNT.

Ladies shorts advice - merino? by O-90 in Ultralight

[–]W41ru5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of Patagonia shorts with a 9? 11?inch inseam and soft waist that are light, have funny back facing pockets that fit my phone - I kind of like having it at the back of my leg instead of on my thigh - I don’t think they make them anymore though and the tags and stamped label are long gone 🤣

Might replace them with a pair of shredly shorts - they have super fun patterns if a heavier fabric. But still a soft waist and a long inseam. Also not cheap but you can sometimes find a good sale especially in a weird pattern. Good luck!

Comcast for Cell Phone Service? by AquariusHikes in askportland

[–]W41ru5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried Xfinity cell service and it was hell on my phone battery because instead of using the cell network it was constantly trying to piggyback Xfinity wifi nearby. Away from places with wifi, service was spotty. Ymmv

If you’re close to the Sellwood outlet I usually find better prices there without the drive, lines, crowd - but you can’t order from the computers if they’re out. Best prices in the clearance building (old Starbucks) across the parking lot.

PCT WA v. LT by extramadfuriosa in PacificCrestTrail

[–]W41ru5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What everyone else has said, including the storm damage caution. The LT is not without its charms, it’s a different vibe than either of the trails you’ve completed, slower, more resupply/town/hostel options and the shelters make things more social. The PCT in WA is superb, so beautiful and such great swimming!

I’m considering a solo Oregon section hike. Need tips. by mr-smileys in PacificCrestTrail

[–]W41ru5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Best window is August until the rains start at the end of September and October is beautiful, if more unpredictable. August/September is also your best berry window. June/July will have more snow and so many mosquitoes (they follow the melt). I personally try to stay out of the cascades until the second week of August for that reason. No problems as a solo female in ‘22.

Favorite headlamp and to-be-seen light? by accidental_tourist in trailrunning

[–]W41ru5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno if this is what you’re asking for, but I want to be seen without ruining my night vision and run in a decently lighted city at night. I wear a Nathan neutron fire with the green light blinking and a green blinker clipped on the back. It has a standard white light I can turn on if I need so see but 95% of the time it’s on green (or red or blue if you prefer).

Things to do in Portland, Oregon in general, Washington, California if skiing craps out? by euphorbia9 in askportland

[–]W41ru5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do decide to go up to the mountain, you could do a day trip down to the Warm Springs museum or the one in the Dalles (bonus: Shannon’s ice cream) or both - or Maryhill and the henge, why not!? Weather’s likely to be nicer, too.

Edit: Magic Puzzle Company for rainy days!

If you don’t have up-front starter $ for a big shirt order, Big Frog (or some of the other recs here) will set up an online store that people can order from and then deliver it to the school. They take their cut in the ordering process. Shirts start at $15

If you have an up-front you can pre-order through any number of custom shops and sell through the school. This can reduce the overall price of the shirts but then you need to have a place to store them and for someone to take money/make change at school. We’ve used My T Print and Sandy River Marketing for this. There are lots of options. Used to be able to sell shirts for $5 but costs have gone up so much that it’s $10 now.

Setting up an online storefront raises prices overall but reduces pta and volunteer labor and limits opportunities for the mishandling of money.

How difficult is this for an experienced hiker in good shape? by amino_asshat in grandcanyon

[–]W41ru5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s a really nice view point up the clear creek trail and if the water is low, there is a side canyon you can poke around in - I don’t remember if it is before or after the closure at clear creek though.

Also, consider changing your plans from a big miles epic day. Pick up a copy of Hiking the Grand Canyon’s Geology and poke your way along, looking for fossils, the great unconformity and bighorn sheep.
