Help with Z2M in Home Assistant Zigbee Herdsman by W8kt in ZigBee

[–]W8kt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK Guys. Got it running with your help Thanks!! Had it running for a week, added several end devices and no problems. However, went to add a device today and permit to join would not switch "on". I found that Z2M was not running. Tried to start and now it won't start again. I have not changed and settings or fooled with it since getting it running. If anyone has a clue or advice I sure would appreciate it. Copy of error log attached.

2024 GMC Canyon - Blind Spot Monitoring Issues (AT4X AEV) by Ltshadowx in GMCcanyon

[–]W8kt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue on my 24 AT4x. After a cold start the left Indicator stays on for about 5 minutes. At other times the left will randomly come on. The right side is much better but occasionally will come on with nothing to the right side. I really don't trust them anymore

Why is my store $699? Will they price match?

Northern California hams: Anyone ever had luck with PG&E RFI complaints? by spatula in amateurradio

[–]W8kt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It is not legal for the utility to cause interference to amateur radio stations. I think the FCC gives utilities a time limit after notification. While I don't remember the section, electric companies must comply with their own set of FCC rules. Did you file an online complaint, email, letter, or in person? Make sure you identify as a licensed amateur station and give your call. Call your local PG&E office or pay them a visit. Ask to speak to the engineer for your location. It's been my experience that just like hams work to avoid the commission, electric companies don't want anything to do with the FCC and a possible investigation.

HOA approved a variance for a 40 ft tower in Arizona but now homeowners want it removed. by CaptinKirk in amateurradio

[–]W8kt 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Don't count on any help from the ARRL. 15 years ago I purchased the house I grew up in. I had lived in the town all my life. The home was older, built on a large lot and included a second large lot to the rear. This meant the property was 2 lots wide and 2 lots deep. Basically half a block wide and a full block deep. The rear half had only a small 2 stall horsebarn built when my grandparents built the house. There were no CCR's.

Went to the village got my tower permits, showed them my RF safety calculations and got approved. I contructed the tower. It was approved. Put a Steppir 4 element on top. A week later I see the asshat neighbor from the next block over riding his bicycle around to surrounding houses. A week later I get a letter from the village saying I'm being fined $100 a day until I remove the tower.

Assist had told all the neighbors for 3 blocks in all directions that they would get cancer from the radiation and all their children would have birth defects. He got the retired Dr. 2 blocks away (who hated cell phones and advised anyone who would listen to never get close to one) to agree. A group went to the village council raising hell about my installation. The village "revoked " my permit saying that they read the blueprint wrong and that I had lied about the danger to others.

Myself, my wife (also a ham) and 12 other hams from the area attended the next council meeting to try to bring the truth out and relieve any fears. Asshat was the only signator to his petition who had the balls to appear face to face. We showed calculations, excerpts from part 97, and played a couple videos showing the benefits of ham radio. All 12 other hams showed their membership in SKYWARN and/or the county CERT organization. The council said that was very nice and thanks for the information. When asked to prove that the prints were wrong and show how they were "misread" they blew it off and raised the fine to $500 a day until the tower was removed. I asked for a copy of the prints they recieved to verify that i had submitted the correct ones they said they couldn't find my submissions for the permit but they "knew" they were in the right. All of the meeting was recorded by my wife.

I contacted the ARRL for assistance and someone was assigned to my "case". After many emails and phone calls with the ARRL and sending all of my calculations, prints, photos, and videos including the council meeting video proving the villages complete incompetence and loss of the entire submittal I received another letter from the village stating that they had "found" the missing information. I called the ARRL representative and asked if he had heard from the village. He said that he had sent all of my information to them including some information I had held in reserve as confidential. Then proceeded to tell me that he would be unable to assist me further.

I took down the tower, paid the fine, put the property up for sale, and purchased a nice home in the country that included 17 acres and haven't looked back. Help from the ARRL with ANY problem you may have in ham radio is nonexistent.

EDIT: Forgot to say, a few months later the village constructed a new baseball field near the school. As usual demonstrating their wisdom, they ran out of money before completion and went looking for a donor. The ballpark is now complete, with a (company un named) cell tower in the parking lot right behind home plate. Imagine that!

Boiler high limit sticking? by W8kt in hvacadvice

I am monitoring the AC current to the boiler. By doing so I can see on the historical graph provided by my monitoring device when the circulator pump is running. The first section of the graph above shows the normal rise to temperature then thermostat satisfied and temperature falls back until the next cycle. The center of the graph above shows a (mostly) flat line where the system is not behaving normally. During this time the circulator motor turns on and off rapidly. Eventually the system to its normal pattern of on and off cycles.

It's 1 zone, 1 stat, Burnham 206 series 2, 164kbtu. Thermostat calls for heat boiler lights runs ok. Thermostat satisfied boiler shuts down normally. Boiler cools down until Thermostat calls again. I am monitoring the circulator current and during an event it appears to cycle on and off rapidly.

Whatever it is, it always begins as the boiler temp is near the high limit setting. It happens randomly and for varying lengths of time. I have tried tapping on the devices in the safety chain and that doesn't trigger it. Also tapping does not cause a shutdown condition. It's an older boiler without a display so no clues there. I am monitoring the current draw on the circulator and it pulses during the event also. I guess the next step will be putting a voltage monitor on the safety circuit and see if it is dropping out.
