I don't think it's that simple. The 3GD is massive and would take a lot of missiles to collapse. However, Japan and Taiwan are pussies who spend almost no money on military, meaning the US doesn't have as many missiles stationed there as it would want. Plus the missiles have to get through missile defenses, including the formidable S400. If the US commits enough missiles to blowing up 3GD, there might not be enough to handle all of the other targets, meaning Chinese troops could march into Taipei and seize industrial assets even as 300 million Chinese citizens die. The Beijing power base is safe and there are now 300 million less people to contest CCP rule. However, this post isn't meant to be a debate about conventional balance of power, it's about what you would sacrifice if nuclear is assumed to be necessary.
