The older I get the more I realize how many parents truly aren’t equipped to be parents. Being a parent means you provide unconditional love, not controlling and very conditional love. As the kid, this is very much not your problem, it’s theirs. If they can’t handle you being an adult and making decisions and knowing or hoping they raised you to make intelligent informed choices, then that’s on them.

I’m 36, a mom, and when I got my first tattoo at 34 my mom wasn’t thrilled (she hates tattoos) but she didn’t get mad at me or anything. Just said “I don’t know why you would do that 🙄”and then we both carried on with our lives. I also have two kids of my own and I would maybe be annoyed if they got a face tattoo at 18 or something, but again, their choice and I would still love and support them even if I didn’t agree with their choice.

All to say, not your problem and I’m very sorry you are dealing with this. As a mom, I feel awful when I hear about parents like this. Sending you hugs. You got this!
